A bus driver became impaled by a 3ft bamboo pole after a head-on collision with a truck – narrowly missing his vital organs.
Lakshmi Kanta Bhunia, 50, was behind the wheel when his bus collided with a truck carrying bamboo poles in west Bengal, India on Wednesday.
The impact was so severe that the 3ft pole speared through the left side of Lakshmis chest and straight out the other side, reports The Times of India.
He was rushed to the hospital for a life-saving surgery, where doctors discovered the bamboo had narrowly missed his vital organs, but injured some vessels in the chest wall.

Lakshmi had lost a lot of blood on the way to the hospital.
But doctors were faced with even greater challenges – they couldn’t lay the patient flat due to the bamboo protruding through his back.
And they were unable to insert an endotracheal tube into his windpipe due to a severe open wound across his neck.
To overcome this, an adjustable chair was arranged to make the patient sit through the surgery, and another method was used to help the patient breathe during surgery.
Thanks to a dozen doctors, nurses and paramedics rallying around the bus driver throughout the surgery, it was a complete success.
Miraculously, Lakshmi is expected to make a full recovery.
