Kenya: Posta Rangers Reinstated Back to GOtv Shield

Nairobi — Posta Rangers has been reinstated to the GOtv Shield tournament after successfully appealing disqualification.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Independent Disciplinary Appeals Committee (IDAC) handed Posta a life line by ruling that the club be restored in the competition.

Posta had appealed against being banned from the competition for fielding an in eligible player in their round of 64 match against National Super League side TimSales FC.

In a ruling sent to FKF CEO Robert Muthomi, IDAC has directed the CEO to find a less punitive punishment for Posta Rangers and ordered for the club's reinstatement in the GOtv Shield tournament.

"I have received and acted on IDAC's directive by reinstating Posta Rangers to the GOtv Shield tournament," said FKF CEO Robert Muthomi.

"I have, also, in accordance with the IDAC ruling fined Posta Rangers Ksh 100,000 for their actions," added Muthomi.

Posta was disqualified June 27 after receiving a letter from FKF who claimed the club failed to adhere to Rule 8.2 that requires clubs registering players submit to the federation secretariat the player (s) form and contract signed between the club and the player.

In this case, Posta fielded new signing winger John Nairuka, who went on to score a brace in the game that his side won 4-1 at the Kericho Green Stadium.

Nairuka was acquired from Ulinzi Stars on a two-year deal in the June transfer window but FKF says Posta did not follow the proper procedures.

Posta will now play the GOtv Shield tournament round of 32 against Ushuru on Saturday at the Nyayo National stadium, with the winner of the match face Agro Chemical in the round of 16, on Wednesday next week.
