Police officer ‘shoots dead 13-year-old who brandished a BB gun’

A 13-year-old boy was shot dead by police after the teen pulled out a firearm that was later found to be a BB gun.
The victim of an armed robbery in downtown Columbus, Ohio, told police a gang approached him and demanded money with a gun.
Down the block, officers spotted three males who matched the description of the alleged robbers, and two of them ran away when officers tried to speak with them, police said.
Officers followed the pair into a nearby alley and tried to take them into custody, but one of the suspects, named Tyree King, pulled out a gun.
One officer fired, hitting the 13-year-old repeatedly.

Chris Naderer told The Columbus Dispatch he heard someone knock down a gate in his backyard, then saw an officer chasing two young men into the alley, before hearing several gunshots.
Police later determined the boy’s firearm was actually a BB gun with an attached laser sight.
The other suspect, who was uninjured, was interviewed and released pending further investigation, police confirmed.
Police said additional suspects were being sought as the shooting and alleged robbery remain under investigation.
