iPhone 7 UK price: How much is the iPhone 7?

iPhone 7 UK price: £599 32GB; £699 128GB; £799 256GB

iPhone 7 US price: $649 32GB

Apple has in the US kept the pricing the same for its flagship iPhone model with double the capacity, but UK prices have gone up (we can only assume this is due to Brexit, since Apple hasn't commented on the fact its entry-level model has gone up by £60). However, it has this time doubled the storage capacities, so you now get 32GB as standard and can upgrade to 128GB or 256GB. In a nice touch it is also upgrading the storage capacity of the iPhone 6s, which remains on sale.

For the first time Apple will also be opening its iPhone Upgrade Programme to the UK, which means for a monthly fee you can get a brand new iPhone every 12 months.

The iPhone 7 will also be available on contract through all major UK mobile operators (Three and Vodafone have already told us they will be ranging the iPhone), as well as AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile in the US.

The iPhone 7 now comes in five colours: Gold, Rose Gold, Silver and two blacks, Black and the more premium-looking, mirror-finish Jet Black. The Jet Black iPhone will be available only in 128GB and 256GB capacities.

iPhone 7 specifications, iPhone 7 new features: What's new in iPhone 7?

We feared the iPhone 7 would be a minor upgrade over the iPhone 6s, with most of the changes saved up for next year's iPhone 8, but actually Apple had a fair bit to announce (separated into 10 sections, which we'll come to in a moment). There's nothing here that's revolutionary in the smartphone world, but some features that will certainly help set apart this phone from the iPhone 6s.

As was rumoured, Apple has removed the headphone jack and you now have a choice of using the Lightning-connected Apple EarPods supplied in the box, using the Lightning adaptor also included in the box (nice move, Apple) to attach a standard pair of wired headphones, or using the brand-new and sold separately wireless Apple EarPods. These have a list price of £159 and will be available from late October.

Other key changes are the aforementioned doubling up on storage, the new water- and dustproof design (rated IP67, which means they can handle being submerged in up to 1m of water for up to 30 minutes), new stereo speakers at top and bottom, an improved camera, a Force Touch home button, and better performance and graphics than ever with the Apple A10 Fusion quad-core processor. We'll expand on all these points below.

iPhone 7 new features: iPhone 7 design

The unibody iPhone 7 is now available in five colours: Jet Black, Black, Silver, Gold and Red Gold. The Jet Black option is a brand-new high-gloss premium version with a mirror finish, complete with a stainless steel Apple logo. The plain black option diffuses light and comes with a black Apple logo.

iPhone 7 new features: iPhone 7 Force Touch Home button

Apple has introduced a new Taptic (haptic feedback) engine to revitalise its Home button, and that makes sense given that it is used for a multitude of tasks beyond simply returning to the home screen (there's also multi-tasking, Siri, accessibility, Touch ID, Reachability and Apple Pay). The new Home button is more responsive and customisable, and solid-state. Force Touch functionality uses the Taptic engine to alter your experience with the button, and provides haptic feedback for quick actions, messages, notifications and ringtones.

iPhone 7 new features: iPhone 7 is IP67 water- and dust-proof

This one is fairly straightforward: the iPhone 7 is the first iPhone that will survive a trip into the toilet, the sea or the bath. It's IP67 rated, which means it is dust-proof and also water-proof up to 1m of water for 30 minutes.

Outrageously, though, liquid damage is still not covered by Apple's warranty for the iPhone 7.

iPhone 7 new features: iPhone 7 camera

Apple was singing the praises of its new camera during the iPhone 7 launch event, although notably the camera on the iPhone 7 Plus is much better with a second 56mm telephoto lens.

The standard iPhone 7 has a 12Mp, f/1.8 camera at the rear that features OIS, and a new six-element lens with larger pixels. Apple says it is 60 percent faster and 30 percent more energy-efficient.

There's a new Apple-designed image processor too, which handles up to 100 billion operations (everything from face and body detection, exposure, focus, white balance, tone mapping, noise reduction and the piecing together of multiple photos to create one best shot) in as little as 25ms. There's a new quad-LED true tone flash and a new flicker sensor, too.

Pro photographer Christopher Anderson said of the iPhone 7 camera: "This iPhone is going to be a part of any professional's repertoire of tools. The camera didn't just handle low light, it rendered the separation of colours in a way that reminds me of film. Just Beautiful."

You can see some of Anderson's unadulterated photos shot on the iPhone 7 below.

The selfie camera has also had an upgrade, with Apple now specifying a 7- rather than 5Mp FaceTime HD camera. In common with the rear camera, this has a wide colour gamut.

Live Photos is still a thing, now with even better stabilisation and new editing functionality.

iPhone 7 new features: iPhone 7 display

The iPhone 7 still has the 4.7in, 326ppi Retina HD display, which we've seen bested by many Android flagships on the market. However, Apple hasn't left it completely alone and along with a 25 percent improvement to brightness it lists new features including a wide colour gamut, cinema standard, colour management and 3D Touch.

iPhone 7 new features: iPhone 7 audio

The iPhone 7 is the first iPhone to feature stereo speakers, with one positioned at the top of the iPhone and the other at the bottom. Apple says this new setup is two times louder than the iPhone 6s, and has increased dynamic range.

iPhone 7 new features: iPhone 7 EarPods

As many people feared, Apple has removed the headphone jack in a play it openly referred to as courageous. Our initial thought was that it was more stupidity than bravery, but it has made some concessions to keep users happy. Firstly, you do get an adaptor in the box that allows you to plug in traditional headphones to the Lightning port that was previously used only for charging and data transfer. And secondly, you also get a pair of wired Apple EarPods in the box. These connect to the Lightning connector, while the removal of the old 3.5mm jack allows Apple space inside the case for other innovations.

iPhone 7 new features: iPhone 7 wireless AirPods

Yet another option for listening to audio on the new iPhone is Apple's wireless AirPods. These are sold separately, with a list price of £159 and available from late October.

The new AirPods are more intelligent than most wireless earphones, which is thanks to the new Apple W1 chip inside. They will play music only when they detect your ear, and each AirPod (you can use only one if you like) offers up to 5 hours of battery life. The case they are sold with also features a battery, which can offer an additional 24 hours playtime, and when it's time to recharge over Lightning you can charge both case and AirPods at once. A double-touch of the new AirPods can launch Siri, too, while a built-in mic lets you vocalise your request.

Apple AirPods

iPhone 7 new features: Apple Pay

One of the less interesting announcements for Apple iPhone fans in the UK was that Apple was bringing Apple Pay to Japan in October, and Transit alongside it.

iPhone 7 new features: iPhone 7 performance

The iPhone 6s was already incredibly fast, but as with every new smartphone launch Apple has bumped up the performance. The iPhone 7 is the first iPhone to feature a quad-core processor, with two of its cores tuned for performance and two for efficiency (although, amazingly, battery life is only two hours longer than that of the iPhone 6s on average).

The new Apple A10 Fusion processor is reportedly 40 percent faster than the Apple A9 and two times faster than the Apple A8, while the iPhone 7 itself is a staggering 120 times faster than the original iPhone.

Graphics performance is also improved, 50 percent faster than the Apple A9 and three times faster than the Apple A8. Yet graphics consume two thirds of the power of the A9, and just half the power of the Apple A8. Overall, the iPhone 7 is 240 times faster than the original iPhone for graphics.

There's a new performance controller to manage which cores are in use, and the two efficiency-tuned cores consume just a fifth of the power.

Battery performance hasn't improved as much as we'd have liked. Apple claims the iPhone 7 can handle 40 hours of wireless audio, 13 hours of wireless video, 14 hours of Wi-Fi browsing, 12 hours of LTE browsing, 12 hours of 3G browsing, or 14 hours of 3G talk time.

iPhone 7 rumours: What was true?

Below you'll find the bones of our original iPhone 7 rumours article, just in case you're interested in which rumours came true and which were nonsense. Just remember, everything above is fact, and everything below not necessarily so.

We're not going to lie: this article is super-long, simply because there has been such an incredible number of leaks and rumours about the next iPhone - many of them appearing almost as soon as the previous iPhone was announced. So we'll sum it up for you:

On 7 September, the new iPhone 7 will be announced - probably alongside an iPhone 7 Plus, which may now be called the iPhone 7 Pro, or that may be a third new iPhone 7 model (no-one really knows the answer to that until launch day). It's expected to be able to pre-order immediately, and to go on sale on 16 September starting at £539. It will be available in Silver, Gold, Rose Gold and... no, not Space Grey, but Space Black. Or Deep Blue. One of the two.

Key changes in the new iPhone 7 will be a new (and flush) dual-camera at the rear, but the loss of the headphone jack (which will allow the new iPhone to become skinnier than ever). Rather than using their existing cans, iPhone 7 owners will be expected to buy a wireless pair or an adaptor that lets them plug in the headphones via the Lightning port.

Performance will be increased, as always, with a new Apple A10 processor, M10 co-processor and, allegedly, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage as standard. And the new iPhone will run the final version of iOS 10 out the box.

Everything else will be much the same, with Apple tipped to be saving up many of its design changes for the 2017 iPhone (the iPhone 8), which will mark the iPhone's 10th anniversary. (Indeed, sceptics are suggesting Apple purposely launched its iPhone Upgrade programme last year to push people into two-year contracts, then purposely kept the iPhone 7 very similar to the iPhone 6s so they wouldn't need to upgrade, ensuring that they are ready for the big one next year.) Though we could see the loss of the antenna bars, and there has been some talk of a ceramic rear.

Those theories are mostly backed up by KGI Securities' Ming-chi Kuo, who is well known for accurately predicting Apple hardware. Kuo says the iPhone 7 will come in five colour options - rose gold, gold, silver, dark black and piano black (a glossier black) - with 32-, 128- or 256GB of storage. Only the iPhone 7 Plus will feature 3GB of RAM, Kuo predicts, while the standard iPhone 7 will have 2GB. This will be paired with a 2.4- or 2.5GHz A10 processor, but the key changes will be the loss of the headphone jack and the new dual-pixel camera. Kuo predicts this will have a four-LED flash, with two warm and two cool.

The idea that the standard iPhone 7 will have only 2GB of RAM is apparently confirmed by a Geekbench screenshot leaked by Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) on Twitter. Whatever the iOS 10.1 phone in question actually is, it achieved a single-core score of 3379 points and multi-core score of 5495 points. That multi-core score is significantly lower than its Samsung Galaxy S7 rival, which scored 6466 points in our tests.

Read on for more juicy iPhone 7 gossip (and if you still don't have your fill, check out our sister site Macworld's take on the next iPhone).

Below we have rounded up rumours from around the web as well as making our own predictions based on what Apple has done in the past. The formula is clearly working for the company so it's unlikely it will deviate from the tried and tested update process this year.

iPhone upgrade cycle: Saving the best for the 2017 iPhone 8

As you read the information below, you might be thinking that it's not much of an upgrade for a new model number. And you'd be right, as it seems Apple will be saving the big jump for the 2017 flagship which we assume will be the iPhone 8.

This is becuase 2017 will mark the 10th anniverasary of the iPhone so Apple will understandably want to do something special.

The Wall Street Journal says: "Apple plans bigger design changes for 2017, the 10th anniversary of the original iPhone. Those changes could include an edge-to-edge organic light-emitting diode, or OLED, screen and eliminating the home button by building the fingerprint sensor into the display, according to people familiar with the matter."

"At a meeting with an Apple executive last month, one of the company’s China-based engineers asked why this year’s model lacked a major design change in keeping with Apple’s usual two-year cycle. The answer, one person at the meeting recalled, was that the new technology in the pipeline will take time to implement. People familiar with the matter said some features that Apple hopes to integrate into iPhones, such as curved screens, weren’t ready for this year’s models," it added.

What will the next iPhone be called? iPhone, iPhone 7 or iPhone Pro?

A new report from Nikkei suggests the Apple did consider three different iPhone models for 2016 but has cut the line-up to just the traditional two. It says the due to fierce competition, Apple has ditched the larger model with a single camera so it looks like we'll be getting what was leaked as the iPhone 7 Pro but might now just be called the Plus model like normal.

This is backed up by a report from Mac Otakara which cites 'reliable sources' in order to 'confirm' the naming system for the iPhone. It will indeed be the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The site also says the larger model with a single lens camera was a backup in case the dual lens technology (on what was dubbed the iPhone 7 Pro) didn't work out in time.

The next iPhone is widely expected to be called the iPhone 7, following Apple's usual strategy of launching a new model number one year and appending an S the next (in 2015 we saw the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, so it follows that in September 2016 we should see the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus).

Until now, that is. Evan Blass, aka @evleaks, is perhaps one of the most reliable tipsters we've come across, and he is calling for people to stop calling the 2016 iPhone the iPhone 7. Blass says it is highly unlikely Apple will use this name, since the next iPhone is thought to be largely unchanged from the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s.

So if not iPhone 7, what will the next iPhone be called? The PC Advisor editorial team couldn't decide, with some suggesting it might offer an iPhone Pro to match the iPad Pro line-up (and there has been rumours of an iPhone 7 Pro), and others suggesting it will be simply 'iPhone'. Have a vote on what you think the name will be below, and feel free to offer your alternative suggestions in the comments below this article.

iPhone 7 vs iPhone 7 Plus

As mentioned throughout this article, rumours suggest that the iPhone 7 won't receive key upgrades which will only be available on the iPhone 7 Plus. The below cases which are available to pre-order show that the regular iPhone 7 won't get the dual camera setup nor the Smart Connector. The cases also show that the new iPhone won't have a headphone jack.

iPhone 7 vs iPhone 7 Plus

iPhone 7 vs iPhone 7 Plus

Here's a video comparing an iPhone 7 mockup with the iPhone 6.

iPhone 7 rumours: Design

It might be a fake, but we have what is the best look at the iPhone 7 yet thanks to NowhereElseFr. It doesn't offer up any new information about specs but is probably the clearest leaked photo yet, showing a design very similar to the current iPhone 6S.

iPhone 7 rear cover leak

iPhone 7 rear cover leak

Various videos have leaked showing the iPhone 7 or mockups at least, and this is the clearest one with the phone in Rose Gold, Gold and Space Black. It appears to confirm rumours including the similar design (to the iPhone 6S), larger camera and no headphone jack socket.

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus looked largely similar to the 6 and 6 Plus, which is usually the case with Apple's 'S' models. We are expecting to see something new for the iPhone 7, although it's very likely that it too will come in Silver, Gold, Space Grey and Rose Gold.

The latest design rumours to emerge claim that the iPhone 7 could actually have a ceramic back like the One Plus X. This could make wireless charging easier to impliment (read more on this below) but it could also make the iPhone 7 look rather different. The rumour came from Business Korea, but there's no real evidence to support the claim. There is, however, a rendering to give an example of what it could look like (below). Months later, there is something to suggest this as Jony Ive wants the iPhone 'to appear like a single sheet of glass', according to the Wall Street Journal.

Another rumour says that the iPhone 7 will use a glass back similar to rivals such as the Xperia Z5. Allen Horng, chairman and chief executive of Catcher Technology, a key supplier said: "As far as I know, only one [iPhone] model will adopt glass casing next year. I don't think this move will have an impact on Catcher's revenue as glass casing still needs a durable metal frame which requires advanced processing technology and would not be cheaper than the current model."

Earlier reports that also emerged in February claim that the iPhone 7's camera will be flush against the back of the phone rather than protruding as it is currently on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

That's according to MacRumors, which claims to have spoken with a reliable source who says a second design change for the iPhone 7 will be the removal of the antenna stripes on the back of the iPhone, as demonstrated in the mockup below.

But these design changes could well apply to the same ceramic back rumour, as the rendering from Business Korea also ditches the antenna lines and has a flush camera.

This is very similar to the renders which GSMArena has published, showing that same antenna stripes. They do show a camera bump though and no sign of the smart connector or the headphone jack.

iPhone 7 leaked render GSMArena

Another possible look at the iPhone 7 comes via weibo and is a photograph rather than a render. It matches the look of the above renders, once again not showing the smart connector.

iPhone 7 leaked photo weibo

iPhone 7 leaked photo weibo

On 5 July, techtastic.nl published the photo below of another iPhone 7 that looks a lot like those leaked above. This site has previously accurately leaked photos of Apple products.

In terms of dimensions for the iPhone 7, a shot via nowhereelse, appears to show that the iPhone 7 will be 67.12x138.3mm in size. That matches the iPhone 6S so the phone won't be changing in size if this is correct. It also shows a single hole for the camera which looks larger than previous models.

A further leak, above, from June 2016 came from nowhereelse.fr again, that purportedly shows a slightly different rear casing, but with the less intrusive aerial stripes still intact. It also adds to the rumours that the iPhone 7 won’t have a headphone jack, as the bottom of the casing shows a speaker grille where the jack should be. Click here to skip down this article to more headphone jack rumours.

iPhone 7 dimensions

iPhone 7 dimensions

More recently, Nowhereelse.fr shared a photo apparently taken at Catcher technologies (a case supplier for Apple) showcasing an iPhone 7 chassis render. While the images are blurry and could be very easily faked, if true, the leak confirms a number of rumoured changes in the next generation Apple smartphone. Most notably, the photo 'confirms' the decision to move the antenna lines from the back of the iPhone to the edges, along with a slight change in the camera setup.

While the camera bump still appears to be present, the renders show the chassis bulging out around the camera - but why? One possibility is to protect the protruding lens from becoming damaged, or it could just be to make the camera bump look a little more appealing. However that's only a small change when you realise that the purported iPhone 7 chassis don't include a 3.5mm headphone jack, which if true, will disappoint many Apple fans.

However, there are various rumours about the headphone jack, so it's very much up in the air as to whether it will stay or go.

Only days after the iPhone 7 chassis render leaked, another photo of the iPhone 7 surfaced online. However unlike with the above photo, the source can't be easily tracked and as such, could be a (very well made) Apple fan edit. If that isn't the case and the photo is genuine, it too confirms Apple's decision to move the antenna lines from the back of the iPhone to its edges.

It wasn't the last leaked image either. The very next day, another leaked image appeared online claiming to showcase the unreleased iPhone 7, though this one showcases different features to the above leaks. The image has been circulating around Chinese forums, and is far from confirmed, although if true could confirm a headline feature of the iPhone 7 - a dual lens setup.

According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, however, this dual-lens camera will be exclusive to the 5.5in iPhone 7 Plus.

iPhone 7 Smart Connector

iPhone 7 Smart Connector

The leaked photo appears to show a much wider camera slot that seems to house not one but two camera lenses. Though no one has any idea what Apple is planning with a dual-lens setup, companies in the past have used them for features including 3D photography, and the ability to refocus an image after it has been taken.

The three dots at the bottom look like the Smart Connector on the iPad Pro modles so perhaps the iPhone 7 will work with some kind of smart case or it could be used for easier charging via a dock.

The below YouTube video is a concept video from ConceptsiPhone that amalgamates all those design rumours - if true, this is what the iPhone 7 will look like:

Yet another possible look at the iPhone 7 comes from an Italian case maker which shows a prototype based on schematics received from an unnamed source in Apple's supply chain. It shows a single camera and also four speaker grilles like the iPad Pro. It's another rumour which suggests the headphone jack will be ditched.

iPhone 7 four speakers

iPhone 7 four speakers

A photo from Mobipicker appears to show that Apple will ditch the home button on the iPhone 7. It's not completely gone in favour of on-screen buttons but the photo shows a home key which is just touch sensitive rather than something you can physically push. If so, it will be similar to the OnePlus 3 and HTC 10.

iPhone 7 home button

iPhone 7 home button

This was then further speculated over when analysts from Cowen & Company suggested the iPhone 7 will have a Force Touch home button (as reported by Business Insider). This assertion relates to the above picture leak, so we could well wave goodbye to the physical home button, but will be left with the volume and power buttons on the device's sides.

It's a minor element but Mac Otakara claims the ear piece at the top of the iPhone 7 will be longer and the proximity sensor has been moved.

iPhone 7 rumours: Specifications & features

A video supposedly comparing the iPhone 7 and iPhone 6S motherboards has appeared online. The issue from our point of view is not only that it could be a complete fake, but that it's not in English so we don't know what differences they are claiming.

With the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus Apple finally budged on some of the specifications it has refused to change for years, such as the 12Mp iSight camera, up from 8Mp in the 6 and 6 Plus. It's likely that Apple will stick with that 12Mp camera for some time to come, although one thing it still refuses to improve is the screen resolution. With rival smartphones now offering Quad- and Ultra-HD screens, we hope that Apple might bump up its pixel count in the iPhone 7 - perhaps to the 400ppi level of the Plus models.

Back to the camera briefly and the latest details suggest that Sony won't be able to keep up with the schedule so Apple will have to move to LG Innotek, according to Nomura Securities via Barron's Asia. This means that the 4.7in sized iPhone is now tipped to have optical image stabilisation (OIS), not just the larger Plus model.

Apple might stick with the 4.7in and 5.5in screen sizes, but with so many phones having a 5in or larger screen it could well move to 5- and 5.7in models and look at ways of increasing the screen-to-body ratio, which is fairly low compared to some phones right now.

In early March we heard rumours that there would be not just two iPhones launching in September, but three, with the third dubbed the iPhone Pro. This is expected to be based on the iPhone 7 Plus, but even more premium with a dual-lens camera. Further fuel to that rumour fire came in June from tech site Weibo, saying that Apple will be lining up three new iPhones in September, potentially using the 'Pro' suffix associated with MacBooks and iPads. This would make sense branding-wise, but quite what makes an iPhone pro is unclear - camera set up, business-orientated performace or higher specs, or all three, could play a part.

Some of the latest rumours we've seen talk of an OLED screen, with Apple having been in talks with LG and Samsung, although this is expected to make an appearance in 2017's iPhone 7s rather than the iPhone 7 that will launch in September 2016.

Expect the usual performance upgrades, with the new Apple A10 processor and embedded M10 motion co-processor. The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus were the first iPhones to finally get 2GB of RAM, and expect this to stay the same in the iPhone 7. The A10 processor was easy to predict but we now have a leaked photo which appears to show the new chip via MacRumours.

The iPhone 7 will ship with iOS 10 installed. Expect Apple to unveil iOS 10 (or iOS X?) at WWDC in June 2016. See below for a concept of the iPhone 7 running on iOS thanks to Mathijs Schrauwen. The device is what we think will be the iPhone 7 Plus but you get the idea.

iPhone 7 with new headphone jack? D Jack

When Apple announced the iPhone 5 with a new style of power connector it angered many fans who would now need to purchase an adaptor to fit their old accessories. We could be about to see Lightning-gate all over again with headphone-gate, as it's rumoured that Apple will shake things up once again with a new style of headphone jack, leaving older accessories incompatible. According to Apple Insider, Apple has patented a new slimmer headphone jack technology called D Jack, which has a diameter of just 2mm.

Will the iPhone 7 have a headphone jack?

One of the most often cited rumours about the iPhone 7 is that it will not have a headphone jack, with the user instead using wireless headphones or connecting them via a Lightning adapter. Sure enough, several iPhone 7 cases and accessories (including Lightning headphone adapters) have since surfaced that add weight to the theory. But would Apple really risk irritating its fans with such a change?

Fact is, Apple is not the first to remove the headphone jack. Lenovo got in there first with the new Motorola Moto Z family.

Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, had offered his two cents on the subject. In an interview with the Australian Financial Review, he said it "will tick off a lot of people".

His main reason for being against it is the poor inferior quality on offer from Bluetooth compared to wired. "I would not use Bluetooth. I don't like wireless. I have cars where you can plug in the music, or go through Bluetooth, and Bluetooth just sounds so flat for the same music," he said.

However, he was positive at the idea of Apple making wireless better, adding “a Bluetooth 2 that has higher bandwidth and better quality - that sounds like real music - I would use it. But we'll see. Apple is good at moving towards the future, and I like to follow that."

In July 2016, a leak from website Tinhte.vn showed high quality images of a (sloghtly low build quality) supposed Lighnting to 3.5mm jack adapter - see below.

As you can see in the left image, the Lightning connector itself is a tad wonky, but on the right it's plugged into an iPhone 6s. The site, and source, is Vietnamese, and it's claimed these photos are a leak from a Foxcconn factory there where Apple components and products are made.

If you thought that was bad news, it gets worse - according to Japanese site Mac Otakara, Apple is thinking about ditching the headphone jack completely, enabling the company to shave 1mm from the device's thickness.

The rumours about Apple ditching the headphone jack for the iPhone 7 don't seem to be slowing in 2016, either. Other images on the site seem to show the accessory as incompatible with iOS 9 devices and only working on iOS 10. This is unconfirmed, but hopefully Apple wouldn't limit a new accessory to its latest operating system. Then again, it could be used as a reason to persuade people to update iOS.

Leaked schematics (below) published by Nowhereelse.fr bolster rumours that Apple really has removed the headphone jack on the iPhone 7. However, the left-hand grille is most likely to house only a microphone and not a second speaker for stereo sound. The new phone could be waterproof, but we'll have to wait and see if this rumour is true or not. Other photos of the front assembly appear to show a cutout for a physical home button, putting paid to rumours of a fixed button with haptic feedback.

iPhone 7 release date rumours

So, even after this leak, how will we listen to our music without a headphone jack? It leaves consumers with two choices; you can either use wireless Bluetooth headphones (like many consumers are already doing) or you can use a pair of headphones that connects to your iPhone via the Lightning port - and potentially a new, slimmer Lightning port. The issue with using a Lightning-port enabled pair of headphones is that a) these are quite expensive, with the likes of the Philips Fidelio headphones costing £184.99, b) it limits the use of the headphones to the iPhone 7, and the iPhone 7 only.

Of course, there's always a possibility that Apple will include some kind of adaptor that'll allow users to use its standard headphones. And some critics claim Apple won't risk losing the free marketing it receives as users reveal in public the wires on its iconic earbuds as they listen to music on the iPhone. If it doesn't include an adaptor, this £19 iTrip Clip from Griffin will make wireless any standard pair of headphones.

But how plausable is this idea? Music is a big part of the history of the iPhone, and we're not too sure Apple would jeopardise that just to shave 1mm off the width of its next iPhone. But with this being said, Apple did replace multiple ports with a single USB-C port on the 12in MacBook all in the name of shaving a a few millimetres off its' latest MacBook.

Consumers certainly seem to be convinced that it's possible, but they've been flocking to sign an online petition in the hopes that they can stop Apple from removing the headphone jack. So far there are more than 280,000 signatures in the petition.

Way back in January even more evidence arrived to suggest that the headphone jack port is on its way out. Code spotted in the iOS 9.3 beta 1.1 software release by Twitter user Chase Fromm reads "Headphones.have.%sinput.NO." which could well be a reference to the future removal of the port.

Then, in March, the first purported iPhone 7 case leaked online. At first glance, you'd mistake it for an iPhone 6s case, but a closer look reveals that there is no space for a 3.5mm headphone jack. Instead, it looks like the iPhone 7 will have two speaker grilles along the bottom.

Another case for the iPhone 7 backs up the idea the iPhone 7 will not have a headphone jack.

iPhone 7 case no headphone jack

Information that leaked in May suggested Apple might keep the headphone jack after all. An image published by MyDrivers, supposedly shows the internals of the next-gen iPhone 7 and you can see the grey headphone jack at the top. It's almost impossible to tell whether the image is legit or fake.

Apple iPhone 7 headphone jack

Adding to the possibility that the iPhone 7 won't have a headphone jack is a range of Lightning products from Axpro Technology which had a booth at Computex. The firm is showing off two pairs of headphones with Lightning connectors and an adapter - which also features a DAC - which means you can plug in a traditional 3.5mm jack.

Lightning headphone adapter

Lightning headphone adapter

Despite all the above, Mac Otakara claims that the iPhone 7 will in fact have the headphone jack and also ship with a Lightning adapter. The site also says there will be a second speaker will feature but there won't be a stereo setup.

Adding more weight to the loss of the headphone jack, a photo via weibo of some Lightning headphones look similar to the current EarPods. He later clarified that they are not the official Apple headphones. As with any leak, they could be a complete hoax.

Lightning EarPods headphones

iPhone 7 to come with Lightning EarPods & wireless AirPods?

Of course, if Apple does decide to ditch the headphone jack then it's going to need to supply some new EarPods with the iPhone 7, and the current rumours are suggesting some Lightning EarPods which will probably be similar to the EarPods we already know but will have a Lightning connector instead of the 3.5mm jack.

More excitingly, though, rumours say that Apple is working on AirPods that will be so completely wireless that they won't even have a wire connecting the left bud with the right bud. Instead they will both individually connect with the iPhone 7 over Bluetooth.

An image has been floating around the internet over the past few days showcasing what is claimed to be a Lightning-enabled pair of Apple EarPods, with many citing Weibo as the source of the 'leak'. The image, if true, shows a pair of fairly standard Apple EarPod earphones with a lightning jack at the bottom in place of the standard 3.5mm jack, seemingly confirming the elimination of the jack on the upcoming iPhone.

However, all isn't what it seems. While many publications reported on the above image as being a genuine leak, we have our reservations. This is mainly due to infamous leaker (what a title!) OnLeaks tweeted the exact same image on Friday 18 March 2016 without the Weibo watermark seen elsewhere online while inferring that it's a fake image. The tweet in question was in response to another headphone 'leak', and OnLeaks uses the photo in question as an example of a photo that was "easy to set up". While this is far from confirmation that it's a fake, it suggests to us at least that this is the case.

iPhone 7 rumours: Will it be waterproof?

It's possible the new iPhone 7 could be waterproof. In March 2015 a new patent revealed that Apple is investigating ways to make future iPhones waterproof without needing to compromise on the design, a change that never made it into the 6s and 6s Plus. Instead of adding armour to the outside of the iPhone to protect it from water, the method would coat electronic components found inside the iPhone in a protective waterproof material that would prevent them from getting damaged should water find its way in. Clever.

iPhone 7 to 'dry itself by shooting water out of its speakers'

If waterproofing the internals of the iPhone 7 doesn't sound impressive enough to you, the next rumour might. A patent was published on 12 November which suggests that the iPhone 7 could be waterproof - but not by creating a watertight body, or even waterproofing the internals. Instead, the patent suggests that the iPhone could dry itself by pumping water (or any other liquid, for that matter) out of the device via its speaker grills. Pretty cool, eh?

The concept is centred around modules within the speakers that can be made more or less hydrophobic, depending on the electrical charge applied to them. That way, when liquid is detected in the iPhone, the modules would be activated in such a way that it'd move the liquid across them and eventually out of the speaker grills. We love this idea, but we're not holding our breath that this will be featured in the iPhone 7 - maybe the 8 or 9, though.

iPhone 7 rumours: Wireless charging

New reports that emerged at the end of January 2016 suggest Apple is working on wireless charging behind the scenes, but the bad news is this special type of wireless charging that doesn't require users to place the phone on a charging mat isn't expected to arrive until 2017.

It's been rumoured that wireless charging is coming to iPhone for a long time now, but the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus arrived in September with no such feature, disappointing many. One of the reasons the iPhone doesn't currently offer wireless inductive charging is because the technology has never previously worked through aluminium, which the iPhone is made with. But in July, Qualcomm revealed that its latest wireless breakthrough now does work through metal, so it's finally a possibility for Apple.

But Apple reportedly wants to take wireless charging one step further. Bloomberg says that the company is "exploring cutting-edge technologies that would allow iPhones and iPads to be powered from further away than the charging mats used with current smartphones."

iPhone 7 rumours: The built-in e-SIM

Another touted feature for the latest iPhone that didn't see daylight and may be reserved for the iPhone 7 is that it will have an e-SIM. Recent reports suggest that it could be the end of days for the traditional SIM card, with a possible introduction of a simpler option. An e-SIM is an electronic SIM card which would replace the physical SIMs used today and instead will opt for a virtual embedded equivalent. Rumours suggest that both Apple and Samsung are in talk with the GSMA (organisation that represents the interest of mobile operators) to use a standardised e-SIM in future handsets.

What are the benefits of having an e-SIM? First things first, it'll make switching carriers easy and should allow for more flexible roaming. The idea is that with a standardised e-SIM, you'll be able to make a call and switch operators without having to insert a specific SIM card. This idea translates to roaming too, as it'll be much easier to switch to a local network if you're looking to spend a long period of time in a particular country.

You can also wave goodbye to SIM adaptors! If you've ever had to go from a nano-SIM device to a micro-SIM device, you'll know exactly what we mean.

It may not be the sexiest of features, but the iPhone 7 may come with a 1960mAh battery which would be a 14 percent increase compared to the iPhone 6S. That's according to OnLeaks, but it's worth noting that most rival flagship phones now come with around 3000mAh.

iPhone 7 rumours: Glasses-free 3D display

According to Economic Daily News, the iPhone 7 could feature a 3D display - but not just any 3D display, but one that doesn't require the use of those annoying 3D glasses. The website claims that Apple supply chain partner TPK is working on a project that could produce a glasses-free 3D display, though we're not holding out much hope for this as its been done before (remember the LG Optimus 3D?) and has never done well.

iPhone 7 with sidewall display: Apple's answer to the Galaxy Note Edge, S6 Edge and S6 Edge+?

There are some rumours to suggest that the iPhone 7 could have some new design features, though we'd take these rumours with a pinch of salt.

The speculation about a new design stems from an Apple patent that was published in 2015. It describes what Apple calls "sidewall displays," similar to the display found on the Galaxy Note Edge, S6 Edge and S6 Edge+.

Concept by Michael Shanks

The patent hints at a future iPhone with a display that extends onto the sides of the device, providing interactive or touch sensitive portions that give access to slide-to-unlock functionality, music player controls, messaging readout, called ID, system controls and more.

Perhaps Apple will decide to introduce the sidewall display to the iPhone 7, offering even more screen estate.

iPhone 7 with edge-to-edge display?

The latest rumour comes from a concept video by DeepMind of what an iPhone 7 would look like with an edge-to-edge display. And it looks pretty cool.

Another concept image of an iPhone 7 with an edge-to-edge display emerged in early 2016 from iPhone-Tricks.com. It's a bit out-there and is unlikely to be quite accurate, but it also shows what iOS 10 might look like including an interesting idea that some of the icons could be bigger in a 'widget' style familiar to Android users.

iPhone 7 rumours: Touch ID integrated into the screen

Another rumour that was sparked by an Apple patent is that the iPhone 7's Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which is usually situated beneath the Home button, could be built-in to the entire display, eliminating the need for a Home button and making room for a larger display without enlarging the overall size of the smartphone.

These rumours seemed pretty far fetched to begin with, but it might just happen. Sonavation recently announced that its found a way to insert ultrasonic biometric sensors underneath a Gorilla Glass display, with it still being able to read a users fingerprints.

The newly developed tech is "well suited for through-the-glass fingerprinting and specifically architected to deliver advanced security

and ease-of-integration into mobile and IoT devices” Sonavation’s CTO Rainer Schmitt said.

The company claims that it can even do one better than the existing Touch ID (and most other fingerprint scanners on the market) by being able to scan fingerprints on a finger that's wet, dirty or oily. Though it's not clear which devices will be the first to feature this new technology, but we assume it'd either be the iPhone or a flagship Android smartphone.

iPhone 7 with flexible OLED display made by Samsung?

All of the above rumours could be made possible thanks to a new flexible OLED, that reports say Samsung Display is currently working on for the iPhone 7 and is set to invest billions in a new factory to keep up with demand and meet Apple's order of up to 45,000 panels per month.

iPhone 7 rumours: Reversible USB charger

Another rumour circulating the web is that the iPhone 7 will come with a new iPhone charger, with a Lightning connector on one end and a new reversible USB connector on the other end.

In August 2014, a video of a reversible USB charger emerged on YouTube, which you can watch below.

iPhone 7 rumours: Leaked images of components

In January, Taiwanese site Apple Club shared photos of what it claims are iPhone 7 parts that have been leaked from the supply chain. The site has been genuine with some of its leaks in the past so it is possible that this is the real deal, but it really doesn't tell us much about the iPhone 7 just yet.

We expect this will be the first of many leaked components as we progress through the year towards the iPhone 7's release, so we'll bring you all of the new images as they emerge right here.

Apple Watch vs Apple Watch 2: What's the difference between Apple Watch and Apple Watch 2?

Zimbabwe: Murape Eyes Dembare Rebound
9/16/2016 1:14:23 PM

By Eddie Chikamhi

Dynamos assistant coach Murape Murape says the Glamour Boys are looking for a response when they open their account in the first round of the Chibuku Super Cup against How Mine at Rufaro this Sunday. DeMbare, who were silver medallists in last year's edition of the $500 000 tournament, are coming from a disappointing run in the Premiership in which their chances of winning the title are as good as over. Worse for them, they lost to traditional rivals Highlanders 1-2 in their last match to concede back-to-back defeats to Bosso for the first time in 10 years.

They have now fallen 12 points behind log leaders FC Platinum in the Castle Lager Premiership race.

"We want to atone for the loss that we had at Barbourfields and also for the bad run that we have had in the league this year," said Murape.

"The Chibuku Super Cup has given us another chance, there is still something to play for and we really want to win it.

"So we are pushing the players to forget what happened on Sunday and concentrate on what's ahead because it doesn't make sense to dwell on the past game.

"The most important game is always the next game so that's how we are preparing it."

DeMbare were one of the seeded teams when the draw was conducted this month.

Last year they went all the way to the final and lost 2-1 to Harare City.

The former midfielder also hinted there could be changes to the team that started the last game in their efforts to rediscover the winning formula.

Dynamos and How Mine were involved in goalless affairs this year when they met in the league.

Morale in their camp this week was rock bottom because of the defeat at Highlanders.

Murape believes they still have to work on some basics to improve their game.

"It really hurt a lot. It was like a stab in the heart, the way we lost it. You could see that we had the game under control and with about 15 minutes to go we made some silly mistakes.

"Maybe those are some of the things that have cost us this year, the level of discipline within the players. It's tactical discipline that we are talking about, how we should apply ourselves as a team.

"If we don't have that discipline of knowing safe areas when you are at the back, maybe you are supposed to play it safe so that the team can regroup.

"Even in our forward lines we got some chances that we could have buried if some of the players were not selfish. Also that is tactical discipline because that is how we train.

"We encourage our players even during our team talks to play as a team and not to go for individual glory, but for team glory because the team comes first. That's an area that we have been trying to work on ever since we took over the reins.

"All over the world, for example in Europe, you would see the likes of Guardiola or Mourinho axing big name players not because they are not good, but because of the tactical discipline of how they want to see the team play.

"I think that's the most important thing in any football team for you to be champions. For you to reach high heights you need to have a team that has players that listen to the call and work together as a team," said Murape.

CAPS United players (file photo).

By Robson Sharuko

Lloyd Chitembwe is this week celebrating a year since returning for his latest spell as CAPS United head coach and the Green Machine's most decorated son has silenced some of those who questioned his appointment with his men well poised in the championship race to end more than 10 years of waiting for their fans.Chitembwe, whose charges take on Border Strikers in a Chibuku Super Cup first round tie at the National Sports Stadium tomorrow, was hired in September last year after CAPS United had performed poorly in a number of league matches.

A goalless draw against Buffaloes in his first match at the National Sports Stadium provoked outrage among those who questioned whether he was the right man for the job after Chitembwe's coaching career appeared to have been lost in the haze of Division One football where he could not make an impression.

But one year later, those voices have been silenced as Chitembwe and his men are only a point behind leaders FC Platinum, in the championship race, their best position for some time, and there is growing expectation at the Green Machine that they can end 11 years of waiting for the league title.

FC Platinum, though, remain the favourites but with a lot of points still at stake, anything is possible and those, at CAPS United, who are daring to dream, can be forgiven.

Chitembwe has turned the National Sports Stadium into a fortress for CAPS United, where the Green Machine are unbeaten since the coach returned to take charge of the technical team in September last year.

And, after more than six years of waiting, Chitembwe also delivered that elusive league win over bitter rivals Dynamos when CAPS United beat the Glamour Boys 1-0 at Rufaro this year.

CAPS United, since Chitembwe's return, have outperformed both their biggest rivals Dynamos and Highlanders in the league.

The Premiership's Big Three Clubs have all played 32 games and CAPS United have won 62 points after winning 17 games, drawing 11 matches and losing only four.

Makepekepe have scored 44 goals and conceded 22 during that period.

Highlanders, who have changed coaches along the way, have won more matches, 18, one more than the Green Machine but they have lost seven times while drawing six for a tally of 60 points.

Bosso, who are in third place in the championship race and are walking with a spring in their step after completing a rare double over bitter rivals Dynamos, having scored 44 goals, the same number as Chitembwe's CAPS United since the coach's return to the Green Machine, while conceding 23, one more than Makepekepe.

Dynamos, whose aura of invincibility over their major rivals was blown away in spectacular fashion this season, have had three coaches -- Tonderai Ndiraya, Paulo Silva and Lloyd Mutasa -- since Chitembwe returned to take over the hot seat at CAPS United.

The Glamour Boys, whose chances of winning the league championship this season appear very slim, have also played 32 league matches during that period, won just 12, drew as many games and lost eight.

They have scored 28 goals and conceded 23 and their tally of 48 points is 14 points behind what Chitembwe has harvested for the Green Machine during that period.

iPhone 7 Plus specs and features

Although we’re really looking forward to next year’s anniversary iPhone 8, Apple has done it’s best to bring new features to the iPhone 7 to fill the gap and tempt existing users to upgrade rather than hold on. And it’s the iPhone 7 Plus which is the more alluring of the two new phones.

To begin with the key new features, the iPhone 7 Plus is water-resistant, has stereo speakers and longer battery life. The main reason to buy the larger model is the dual-camera technology on the back.

iPhone 7 Plus colours

iPhone 7 Plus colours

Design

The iPhone 7 phones have what Apple calls a ‘new design’. Although it looks pretty similar to us beyond the new colours. There are five colours to choose from: Gold, Silver, Rose Gold, Black and Jet Black (glossy). It’s no thinner at 7.3mm but is slightly lighter at 188g.

New process allows for high-gloss ‘Jet Black’ finish. The camera housing is machined from the piece of metal as the main body and the antenna is internal so the outside appears uninterrupted. The aluminium and glass are seamless.

The iPhone 7 design is “The most singular, the most evolved of this singular design”, says Jonny Ive.

Cameras

The dual-cameras consist of one wide-angle 28mm lens (the same as on the iPhone 7) and one telephoto (56mm lens). When you switch to the latter you get an optical zoom of x2 which can then be increased to up to x10, although it’s digital after x2.

The new camera is 2x12Mp with an f/1.8 aperture, OIS (optical image stabilisation, also on the regular iPhone 7), six-element lens. Apple says it’s 60 percent faster 30 percent more efficient. The True Tone flash now has four LEDs with 50 percent more light and has a larger reach.

At the front is a 7Mp FaceTime HD camera which includes wide colour capture and auto image stabilisation. Handling features such as white balance, focus, noise reduction and the like is Apple’s custom ISP.

It has also been discovered by Reddit user /u/ImKuya that the iPhone 7 Plus houses a wide-angle camera with a 1/3in sensor and another camera with a slightly smaller 1/3.6in sensor. ImKuya worked it out by doing some maths on data pulled from EXIF data (reveals details about a photo) taken from a Sports Illustrated picture.

New home button

Rumours about the home button were correct and it’s no long a push and click style. It’s been redesigned to be more responsive, reliable and customisable. It’s now a sold state force sensitive button with a new Taptic engine for feedback.

Water-resistant

Going back to the water-resistancy and the iPhone 7 Plus is IP67 rated which means you can fully dunk it. Why Apple hadn’t called it waterproof, then, is a mystery. The rating means it’s fully dust proof and can be submerged into up to one meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

Do note, however, that liquid damage is not covered in the warranty.

Speakers

For the first time, the iPhone 7 Plus has stereo speakers - namely in landscape orientation and they have increased dynamic range. That’s all Apple had to say about that.

Headphone jack and AirPods

Apple has finally confirmed that the iPhone’s headphone jack is gone. The phone now just has the Lightning port as a connector which is used for both power and headphones. The new EarPods are included and have Lighting but for those who want to carry on using existing or traditional earphones then Apple will also supply an adapter in the box.

Despite lots of negative reactions to the rumours on the subject, Apple said it’s is doing so because of ‘courage’.

Apple has also announced wireless AirPods. IR sensors know when they’re in your ears and accelerometer sensors know when you're talking. External mics eanble noise reduction and they also have touch sensitive controls. The firm touts 5 hours of battery life with a further 24 hours from the wireless case.

The Apple AirPods price is £159/$159.

Apple A10 Fusion processor and battery life

It wasn’t hard to predict, apart from the Fusion part of the name, but the iPhone 7 Plus has Apple’s new A10 processor which is calls the most powerful smartphone processor in the world.

The 64-bit chip has a quad-core CPU with two for high power and two for efficiency. Something we’ve seen for a long time in rival Android smartphones. Apple says there’s also a performance controller for managing which cores are used for what.

The A10 Fusion is 40 percent faster than the A9 and twice as fast compared to the A8. It’s 120x the original iPhone.

On the GPU front the new six-core chip is 50 percent faster than A9 with two thirds the power and three times faster than the A8 with half the power. That’s 240x the original iPhone.

On the battery life, despite making a big deal of it, the iPhone 7 Plus will give the average user just one extra hour of battery life compare to the 6S Plus.

Screen

Some thing on the iPhone 7 Plus have stayed the same when you compare it to its predecessor, the iPhone 6S Plus. For example, the screen remains at 5.5in and a Full HD resolution (1080 x 1920). It is 25 percent brighter, though, and also features wide colour gamut and, of course, 3D Touch.

NFC and Apple Pay

The iPhone 7 Plus still has NFC (near field communication) but it is still limited to Apple Pay usage only. Apple confirmed at the launch that Apple Pay will launch in Japan in October.

iPhone 7 Plus: User Poll

After the break you'll find our rumour round-up coverage from before the official launch event. Here you can see what leaked information was correct and which was false.

Below are the rumours we shared ahead of Apple's official unveiling of the iPhone 7 Plus.

Despite no mention of a blue colour from Kuo above, MobileFun has received 'confirmed reports' of a lighter blue option for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Check out the leaked photo below.

The below photo, via Apple Insider, appears to confirm a Lightning to headphone adapter and there's more confirmation that Apple will offer a 256GB model.

The naming system for this year's iPhone has been 'confirmed', not by Apple of course but by 'reliable sources' via Mac Otakara. It will be the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus despite minor upgrades to avoid the confusion of consecutive 'S' models. It seems the 'Pro' model was actually just one of two Plus options with the single lens option a fall back if the dual camera technology didn't work out.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple has decided to ditch one of its three new iPhone 7 models. Rumour has it that the single-lens 5.5in iPhone 7 (below left) has been canned and only the dual-camera model will go on sale alongside the 4.7in iPhone 7. It means that what we previously thought would be called the iPhone 7 Pro is now likely to be the iPhone 7 Plus - a straight replacement for the iPhone 6S Plus. However, it could also mean there will be no iPhone 7 Plus and instead we'll see only the standard iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Pro. The report also says the home button will be new and, instead of being a traditional push button, will be more like the trackpad on a new Macbook with haptic feedback.

The below photos (from MyDrivers) appear to show the rumoured black iPhone 7 Plus from different angles. We can see the dual-cameras, Smart Connector and the lack of a headphone jack. It's not clear whether the home button is push like previously or a new touch only version.

YouTube channel Unbox Therapy got hold of a mockup of the 7 Plus from headphone company Besound. If the mockup is correct, the phone really will have protruding dual cameras, no headphone jack and a three-pin dock connector for accessories. You can watch the video comparison here, and an image showing the old and new phones side by side is below. Whether or not the dark blue colour is correct remains to be seen: other rumours say the iPhone 7 Plus will be available in darker 'Space Black' not dark blue as previously rumoured. A new photo shows the alleged dual-camera module and a whopping 256GB storage capacity. Take a look. Will the base model finally be 32GB

However, while the dual-camera seem like a certainty, a Weibo user citing sources at Foxconn (Apple's manufacturing partner) says that workers have been told the dual-camera technology is too immature to include. In other words it's not ready for the iPhone 7 Plus but there's still plenty of time left between now and the launch so don't take this as concrete just yet. Naturally, we'll have a full iPhone 7 Plus review for you once we get our hands on the phone following its launch.

The latest info coming through on the iPhone 7 Plus suggests it will feature both waterproofing and wireless charging. Retailer MobileFun tells us that the sensors are now in the right hand side of the front facing speaker and that the iPhone 7 has 'more of a curved edge than the iPhone 6/6S'.

iPhone 7 Plus rumours: Design & build

Back in July a leak via Nowhereelse, showed the iPhone 7 Plus compared to the regular iPhone 7 (both dummy versions). Here's another shot of the iPhone 7 Plus from the front.

Update 11 July: After so many leaks around the same things (mainly cameras and headphone jack), we have something new on the cards when it comes to the iPhone 7 range. A slide posted on My Drivers from an internal Foxconn (Apple's largest manufacturer) presentation appears to reveal that the iPhone 7 Plus –and presumably iPhone 7 – will at long last be waterproof with an IP68 rating and will also have wireless charging.

If true, the iPhone 7 Plus would match rivals like the Samsung Galaxy S7 which offers both these features. The IP68 rating means a device is fully dust proof and can be submerged in water for up to 30 minutes. The wireless charging would be a be deal if Apple does ditch the headphone jack as there would be no way of listing to music and charging the phone without using wireless headphones (or the built in speaker).

Apple filed a patent for 'Smart aluminium' in December which uses "an imitation metal oxide layer" to allow the conduction charging to pass through the chassis.

Update 27 June: Contradicting a report released previously claiming that the iPhone 7 Plus will be available in deep blue instead of the traditional space grey, Mac Otakara now claims that Apple is working on a space grey finish. However, the colouring will be similar to that of the Apple Watch, providing a much darker colour than is present at the moment. Sources claim that it'll be "formal black" which is apparently close to black, with a slight grey tinge.

This is 'confirmed' by a 9to5Mac source claiming that Apple is working on a "Space Black" finish for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus similar to the Apple Watch, although the source is fairly new with no track record, so we can't be sure of its accuracy at this time. The source also claims that the Apple Watch 2 will feature on-board GPS, that Apple will be releasing a new MacBook Pro with an OLED Strip and Touch ID sensor built into the power button, however it's a wireless earbud claim that intregues us.

The 9to5Mac source claims that Apple is on track to release fully wireless EarPods alongside the iPhone 7, which apparently will not feature a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Rumours of wireless EarPods circulated earlier this year, but were shot down fairly quickly with claims that we won't be seeing them until the 2017/2018 iPhone so it's interesting that this is mentioned by the source. Again, as noted above, this source has no track record so it's best to take these rumours with a pinch of salt - for now, at least.

On 12 May 2016, U-Switch (along with OnLeaks) showcased a video of what is claimed to be CAD renders of the upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (which some are now calling the iPhone 7 'Pro'). While the video was basic, it has confirmed a number of features of the iPhone 7 Plus - the dual-camera setup, removal of the headphone jack and the introduction of a Smart Connector on the rear of the smartphone. The video can be found below:

While we can't confirm or deny that these are renders of Apple's upcoming smartphones, OnLeaks has a great track record when it comes to smartphone leaks and if any leaks were true, we'd bet on it being from OnLeaks.

Two days earlier, On 10 May 2016, the ever-so-trustworthy nowhereelse.fr (with the OnLeaks stamp on it) leaked an image showcasing an iPhone, presumably the iPhone 7 with the identical dimensions as the iPhone 6s, thus measuring 67.12mm wide and 138.3mm tall.

iPhone 7 Plus - Dimensions

iPhone 7 Plus - Dimensions

If we base the same dimensions as the iPhone 6s Plus, we could assume the 7 Plus will be 77.9mm wide and 158.2mm tall. We weren't informed of its thickness, but the 6s was 7.1mm thick, whilst the 6s Plus was 7.3mm thick.

The image above, does also suggest that the dual-camera design might be exclusively used with the iPhone 7 Plus. A schematic pictured below gives you a better idea of how the iPhone 7 Plus might look like:

On 9 May 2016, Macrumours saw an iPhone 7 that was pictured without a headphone jack and a different back plate design. In the picture, there are three small dots for the smart connector, suggesting the rumours around the smart connector to be true. However, as we can't verify the source, take the image below with a pinch of salt.

On 3 May 2016, an image leak by French site Nowhereelse.fr shows a number of components, including the much-talked about headphone jack. Below are internal component images from Weibo and iFixit (iPhone 6s) - from the images, we can see there's a slight difference in the components, but yet the headphone jack remains present.

The trusted KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, dubbed as one of the most reliable and well-known Apple insiders suggests that Apple will return to an iPhone 4/4s glass design in 2017. The reason this applies to iPhone 7 and 7 Plus rumours is that Apple will stick to its current metal design.

iPhone 7 Plus - Glass Design

Apple's iPhone cycle tends to follow a 'tick' and 'tock' sort of model, with the tick being the main iPhone update such as the iPhone 6, which generally looks quite different from the previous model, and then the secondary iPhone update such as the iPhone 6s, which looks almost identical to the iPhone 6 but has some big spec changes.

That's why we think the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will look quite different from the current iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus design. We think it'll still come in Silver, Gold, Space Grey and Rose Gold colour options, but we might see some other changes when it comes to the overall look and feel of the phone.

Apple could well decide to bump the screen size up from 5.5in on the iPhone 6s Plus to 5.7in on the iPhone 7 Plus, with the smaller model bumping up from 4.7in to 5in, but rather than increasing the overall size of the phone itself, we expect Apple will aim to increase the screen-to-body ratio. This could be achieved by an edge-to-edge screen, perhaps, something that's been rumoured to be in the works at Apple for a while now and Apple has actually patented. Apple called the technology "Sidewall displays" and describes how parts of the display would be on the side of the phone a lot like the Galaxy Note Edge, S6 Edge and S6 Edge Plus.

The iPhone 7 Plus may also be thinner thanks to a new headphone jack that's rumoured to be coming with the next iPhone. According to Apple Insider, Apple has patented a new, slimmer headphone jack technology called D Jack, which has a diameter of just 2mm to allow the iPhone to be thinner overall. This could also allow the iPhone 7 Plus to feature a dual speaker design.

We might also see a complete removal of the headphone jack, where the audio output would be from the Lightning port or over Bluetooth. Apple might provide a set of wired headphones in the box which have a Lightning connector and sell a Lightning-to-3.5mm minijack as an option if you want to use conventional headphones. Apparently, Apple has registered the name AirPods, which could be a new wireless set of headphones for the new iPhone.

Adding to this possibility are some new Lightning accessories from Axpro which include headphones and a Lightning to headphone jack converter.

Apple iPhone 7 Lightning adapter

Apple iPhone 7 Lightning adapter

The iPhone 7 Plus could be completely flush on both the front and back, removing the infamous camera bump present on the current iPhone flagship. The bump stops the iPhone from laying perfectly flat and also breaks up the 'clean' design aesthetic, something Apple holds dear.

The iPhone 7 Plus could be waterproof, too, as Apple has recently patented waterproofing technology that doesn't compromise design. Instead, it coats all of the important components inside the phone to make it waterproof without requiring outer armour.

There's more on the design front from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, well known for revealing details of new iPhones who told Mac Rumours: "We expect the 2017 new iPhone model to adopt a structural design similar to that of iPhone 4/ 4s, meaning it will be equipped with glass on both the front and back sides, and a metal frame surrounded the edges. The difference is that the new model will likely come with a curved screen and curved glass casing, with other important features including a 5.8-inch AMOLED display, wireless charging, and more biometric recognitions (facial or iris). Given the curved design, the new model may look smaller than an existing 5.5-inch iPhone."

Although he's talking about the 2017 new iPhone this could still be the iPhone 7 since most of its time as the flagship phone will be spent in 2017 following a late-2016 launch.

Adding to the possibility of no headphone jack in a new product from Griffin called the iTrip Clip which means you can use any wired headphones wirelessly over Bluetooth with any smartphone "especially ones without a headphone jack", the firm adds incidentally. It will launch towards the end of September, handily around the same time as the iPhone 7.

iPhone 7 vs iPhone 7 Plus vs iPhone 7 Pro

As we've looked at in the article, rumours suggest that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will have a bigger difference than previously.

More recently, this photo appears to show all three rumoured iPhone 7 models. It seems to suggest that the iPhone 7 Pro will be the only device to get the dual-cameras and the Smart Connector but the Plus will be the same size.

iPhone 7 Plus specs and new features

Update 3 May 2016: A user on Weibo leaked an image (see below) of the new battery capacity that will be found within the new iPhone 7 Plus. According to the image, the iPhone 7 will feature a 1735mAh battery, whilst its bigger brother the 7 Plus will have a 2810mAh capacity, both of which are slightly larger than the 1715 and 2750mAh batteries found on the 6s and 6s Plus respectively.

iPhone 7 Plus - Battery

iPhone 7 Plus - Battery

The iPhone 6s Plus saw the introduction of an impressive new 12Mp iSight camera, up from 8Mp in the previous model. We think that the 12Mp camera will remain in the iPhone 7 Plus, as it's already an impressive snapper for a smartphone.

However, it has been rumoured that the iPhone 7 Plus will feature dual-cameras, based on tech acquired in 2015 from LinX Imaging. This could follow in the footsteps of Huawei, which has put twin cameras on the P9. If true, you can expect improved noise reduction, indoor photos, low-light photos and 3D depth mapping. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo told MacRumors he thinks both single- and dual-camera versions of the phone are in development, and that a 2-3x optical zoom function is likely to feature in the iPhone 7 Plus. Pictured below is an image render from Feld & Volk, a premium iPhone modification company.

iPhone 7 Plus - Camera Renders

Adding the rumours of the dual-camera setup is this photo, via Weibo, which appears to show the module which will be used in the iPhone 7 Plus or possibly the Pro (or even both if Apple goes for all three). The lenses look different so each camera could serve a different purpose.

The image also shows that Apple may be about to offer a 256GB iPhone for the first time, backing up other rumours we've already mentioned. If it's correct, the iPhone 7 Plus will come in at least 16-, 64- and 256GB storage capacities. A Weibo user claims that the entire iPhone 7 range will come in 32-, 128- and 256GB storage options, thefore scrapping both the 16- and 64GB options.

iPhone 7 Plus dual cameras

iPhone 7 Plus dual cameras

An area Apple might improve is screen resolution. At present, the iPhone 6s Plus offers 401ppi, but rivals such as Samsung and LG have with Quad- and Ultra-HD screens with pixel densities well above 500ppi, However, we suspect Apple will stick with 400ppi, which is plenty for sharp-looking images. There's only minor benefits to higher densities, and plenty of disadvantages such as the cost of manufacturing, higher battery drain and slower 3D performance (if running apps and games at the native resolution).

We've already got the 3D Touch functionality in the iPhone 6s, which has opened up a whole new way of interacting with the iPhone, but it's possible that the display could become a Touch ID display too, which could sense your fingerprint and securely unlock the phone wherever you touch on a screen and therefore remove the need for the Home button. However, recent reports suggest that the Home button will make an appearance on the iPhone 7, but may be touch-sensitive like many Android smartphones, and not a physical button as it has been up until now.

It's very likely that the processor will be improved, too, with a new A10 processor and M10 motion co-processor likely to make an appearance, and we could see a bump up from 2GB RAM to 3GB, although that seems less plausible as the iPhone 6 and earlier all had 1GB.

The IHS analyst mentioned earlier has backed up this saying that it will be the Plus model which will get more RAM. We assume this will be down, at least in part, to the dual camera setup.

There are some rumours stemming from Bloomberg that suggest the next iPhone will feature wireless charging, yet the truth is this is much more likely to come in 2017 with the iPhone 7s Plus. According to the site, "Apple is exploring cutting-edge technologies that would allow iPhones and iPads to be powered from further away than the charging mats used with current smartphones."

As for software, iOS 10 is expected, and this'll be shown off at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2016 and could give us some iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus clues.

Apple Watch vs Apple Watch 2: What's the difference between Apple Watch and Apple Watch 2?

Zimbabwe: Nhamoinesu Concedes Penalty
9/16/2016 12:06:55 PM

Zimbabwe international defender Costa Nhamoinesu conceded a penalty as his Czech club Sparta Prague were hammered 0-3 by Southampton in the UEFA Europa League in England last night.

The Warriors centreback was adjudged to have handled in the box, as he slid for a tackle in the penalty area and Charlie Austin converted from the spot to give the Saints the lead.

Sparta Prague never recovered and were comprehensively beaten on the night with Austin grabbing a brace while Jay Rodriguez added a late third.

Austin opened the scoring with a controversial penalty after Nhamoinesu was harshly adjudged to have handled while challenging the striker.

Dusan Tadic had to be ushered away after arguing about who should take the penalty, but celebrated with Austin.

Manager Claude Puel has endured a frustrating start to his managerial reign at Southampton after two draws and two defeats, including last Saturday's last-minute loss at Arsenal.

But this was a highly satisfactory night for the Frenchman as the Saints secured a comfortable Group K win with Austin, who has started just one league game this season, causing chaos with his pace and accurate finishing.

The 27-year-old looked like a player with a point to prove as he scored twice in 22 first half minutes, the first a controversial penalty awarded after Nhamoinesu was ruled to have handled while challenging Austin on the edge of the area.

German referee Manuel Grafe originally awarded a corner only to change his mind and point to the spot. More drama was to follow as Austin's team-mate Tadic had to be guided away by captain Virgil van Dijk after arguing over who should take the kick.

Austin sent keeper Tomas Koubek the wrong way from the spot before the former QPR striker headed his second from the edge of the six-yard area after Cuco Martina's clever cross.

Having scored the winner at Manchester United last January, Austin has now found the net on both his Premier League and Europa League debuts for Southampton.

Meanwhile, United produced a lacklustre display as their Europa League campaign began in defeat at Feyenoord last night.

Jose Mourinho made eight changes from the team beaten by Manchester City and an Anthony Martial shot going wide was their only first-half chance.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic came on for the visitors and headed wide as he failed to turn around his side's fortunes.

Instead, Nicolai Jorgensen, who was offside, crossed for Tonny Vilhena to drive in Feyenoord's late winner. Ibrahimovic went close to an equaliser with a drilled free-kick but it was saved at the second attempt by former Liverpool keeper Brad Jones.

The defeat means United have lost four successive European away games in a row for the first time.

Paul Pogba, who rejoined United in a world-record £89 million move from Juventus in August, had his lack of discipline and positioning heavily criticised by ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher following Saturday's derby defeat by City.

If playing alongside Ander Herrera and Morgan Schniederlin in midfield against Feyenoord was supposed to allow him freedom to display his attacking skills, Pogba failed to take the opportunity to do so.

The France international was a peripheral figure in the first half as he epitomised a lack of urgency and intensity from the visitors.

Pogba pushed further up the pitch after the break and despite looking a little more threatening as he attempted two long-range shots which went comfortably off target, he could not find the quality to help find a way through the Dutch side's defence.

England forward Wayne Rooney has played behind United's main striker so far this season but was rested for this trip.

United boss Jose Mourinho claimed he had other "solutions" for the role, but the poor performance of his supporting cast of players can have done little to persuade him of the strength of his other options.

The midfield trio of Herrera, Schneiderlin and Pogba, along with wingers Anthony Martial and Juan Mata, left Marcus Rashford too isolated.

Rashford, who burst on to the scene with two goals in a 5-1 Europa League win over FC Midtjylland on his Manchester United debut in February, struggled as he made his first start of the campaign.

He was replaced by Ibrahimovic, who was part of a triple substitution after 63 minutes which also introduced Memphis Depay and Ashley Young and the Swede gave the attack more of a threat but United still did not look like scoring.

Asked if the players who came in failed to take their chance, Mourinho said: "I don't want to go in that direction. I don't want to personalise. Obviously, some played better than others. It was the first game for some."

On his selection for this coming Sunday's Premier League trip to Watford, the manager added: "We go back to a normal team without so many changes."

Eredivise leaders Feyenoord came into the game in good form, having won their opening five league games, scoring 15 and conceding twice in the process.

Managed by former Arsenal and Barcelona left-back Giovanni van Bronckhorst, their team included former Liverpool players Dirk Kuyt, who scored a hat-trick against United in 2011 in his time at Anfield and Jones.

Keeper Jones had a much quieter evening than he might have expected and the Dutch side could have taken the lead in the first half when Jens Toornstra blazed high when he had time and space to shoot.

Zimbabwe: Chitembwe Rests Top Gun Tsipa
9/16/2016 12:02:22 PM

By Grace Chingoma

Veteran forward Leonard Tsipa has been rested as CAPS United begin their quest to win the Chibuku Super Cup tomorrow with a home date against Tsholotsho.

It probably sends the signal that coach Lloyd Chitembwe's priority is in winning the league title.

Chitembwe and his men return to their fortress where the coach is unbeaten in his latest spell with Makepekepe in 18 games since taking over last year,

Tsipa is in scoring form as he scored in each of the team's last three league victories.

Chitembwe says he needs to manage the aging forward.

Last weekend, Tsipa limped off in the final quarter of the match against champions Chicken Inn.

"Leonard is okay, we are resting him," said Chitembwe.

"We need to make sure his fitness is managed because with his age his body is no longer the same as it used to be so we have to manage that, but he will be back in the next game.

"I am happy for him and the scoring form he is in because he has been getting stick in previous matches from the supporters, but just look at the response and this is what is needed."

Chitembwe said they were focussed on winning the tournament.

"The focus is the same and that is to win each and every game be it the league or a Cup game. The whole idea is to try and maintain what we have been doing and always seeking for a victory in each game," he said.

"There are no longer small teams or big teams and every game is difficult.

"In recent weeks, they (Tsholotsho) have been doing well trying to survive relegation. Even when we played them, they tried to make life difficult for us.

"If we retain that same attitude like when we played those (league) matches it may help us."

CAPS United are being stalked by injuries, but Chitembwe said it should be business as usual.

For this weekend, skipper Moses Chunga will join midfielders Tafadzwa Rusike, Archford Gutu and Abbas Amidu in the casualty ward.

"We cannot complain about injuries anymore as it has always been the case that we are missing players every week and cannot remember when was the last time we had a full squad," said Chitembwe.

CAPS United were booted out in the first round of the same tournament last season when they were beaten on penalties after they had drawn 2-2 with ZPC Kariba.

Win over Manchester United a night to remember, says Feyenoord's Dirk Kuyt

Liverpool fans’ favourite Dirk Kuyt enjoyed putting one over Manchester United again as Feyenoord secured a memorable Europa League victory.

José Mourinho’s men arrived in Rotterdam as overriding favourites for the Group A opener, yet they left Holland reeling from a bruising 1-0 defeat.

Tonny Vilhena’s late strike had those inside De Kuip bouncing and gave Kuyt another memory to cherish against United.

The 36-year-old enjoyed six years at north-west rivals Liverpool and netted a hat-trick in a 3-1 defeat of United in March 2011.

“This is a night not to forget quickly,” he said. “The crowd was great and that resulted in a lovely atmosphere at De Kuip.

“The club, Feyenoord, belongs in Europe. If you do it on an evening against a top team as Manchester United, that gives a wonderful feeling.

“Beforehand I said to the boys, ‘If we go all out and they play five per cent less then we can win’.

“We fought in the contest. I must give a huge compliment to the team for the fight that we had up to the last minute. This is a wonderful start to the tournament.”

Meanwhile, Chris Smalling says United’s players need to stand up and be counted to avoid an “unacceptable” third successive defeat. Stand-in captain Smalling admitted “we didn’t play up to our standards” in the Netherlands and that United can ill-afford another loss when they return to Premier League action at Watford on Sunday.

“I think if anything, that’s a good thing,” the centre-back said of the quick turnaround.

“We don’t have time to dwell and we have a few days to recover. We make sure that we stand up and be counted on Sunday because we’ve got a big result to get.

“I think (the confidence) does take a little knock, but I think we can’t forget some of the chances we created.

“I think on Sunday character...needs to shine through because it’s unacceptable to lose three games in a row.”

Africa: Tanzania's Stars Among African Teams Dropped in Latest FIFA Ranking
9/16/2016 6:45:15 AM

Photo: allafrica.com

Some of African countries football teams.

Tanzania has dropped a massive eight places in the latest edition of the FIFA/Coca Cola World Rankings released in Zurich, Switzerland, yesterday.

The Taifa Stars slipped to 132nd position in the global ranking for the month of September after accumulating 264 points. The drop was expected after Taifa Stars conceded a 1-0 defeat to Nigeria in a mere formality 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifying fixture in Ayo.

Kelechi Iheanacho's stunning late strike ensured Tanzania ended their failed AFCON qualifying bid bottom of group G, which was reduced to only three teams following Chad's withdrawal for financial reasons. Tanzania's average position stands at 122 since Fifa world ranking creation.

The country's highest position was 70th attained in 1995 while the lowest was 172nd position in 2004. A total of 126 international A-matches were played over the past few weeks, bringing the total number of games for the 2016 to 632. Uganda remains the best ranked country in the entire CECAFA region at 65th position. K

enya follows in the 91st position despite a fall by three places. Rwanda moved up 14 places to 107th, Ethiopia (126th), Burundi (129th), Sudan (135th), South Sudan (167th). Horn of Africa nations Djibouti, Eritrea and Somalia are among the world's lowest ranked countries, sharing a joint 205th placing with zero point.

The best ranked country in Africa is Ivory Coast at 34th followed by Algeria (35th), Senegal (39th) and Ghana at 43rd.

Despite the shifts up and down the ranking, however, Argentina and Belgium remain fixed in first and second place respectively, cementing their positions at the summit of the World Ranking for another month.

Elsewhere in the top five, Germany (3, up 1) and Colombia (4, down 1) traded places while a rejuvenated Brazil, under new coach Tite, moved into joint fourth place thanks largely due to victories against Colombia and Ecuador in World Cup qualifiers.

A little further down, Uruguay (9, up 3) and Wales (10, up 1) muscled their way into the top ten at the expense of Spain (11, down 3) and Italy (13, down 3).

While Brazil are the month's biggest points scorers, Bolivia climbed furthest (75, up 35), followed by Malawi (99, up 28), Faroe Islands (111, up 24) and the Dominican Republic (114, up 24).

The large number of qualifying fixtures for continental competitions (26 matches) and the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia (61 matches) over September is reflected in significant movement in the latest edition.

The two most recent member associations to join FIFA, Gibraltar and Kosovo, participated in their first ever World Cup preliminary matches in September. With only two Agames to their name in ranking history, Kosovo (168, up 22) were the fifth-biggest climbers this month.

In contrast, Gibraltar (205) secured no points from their two matches, the first of which was against newly crowned European champions Portugal (7, down 1).

This month, the following teams reached their best ever position on the FIFA/Coca- Cola World Ranking: Guinea- Bissau (73, up 2), St Kitts and Nevis (77, up 4), Kazakhstan (83, up 13), Comoros (152, up 3) and Kosovo (168, up 22).

A notable mention goes to the four teams breaking into the top 50: Scotland (44, up 7), Australia (45, up 12), Greece (48, up 4) and Uzbekistan (49, up 6).

Tanzania: Simba, Azam Fever Grips Dar

Ruvu Shooting's Shaibu Nayopa , battles for a ball with Simba striker, Ibrahim Ajib, during their Mainland Premier League encounter at the Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

With only 24 hours remaining before the Mainland League giants Simba and Azam ßclash at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam, tension has gripped both sides which are tied at the top on points in the standing table. Victory is crucial for both sides as it will decide who really deserves pilot seat after the teams tied at the top with ten points each.

The situation forces both teams to fight tooth and nail to win the encounter; hence fierce fight is much anticipated at the newly refurbished Uhuru Stadium tomorrow. However, the league table places the ice-cream makers Azam at the top by virtue of the alphabetical order.

Speaking ahead of the match, Simba's Head of Information and Communications, Haji Manara said his team was ready to play at any venue hence dismissing the venue issue, saying the team's focus is winning the game and claim three points.

"We are targeting three points in our next match against Azam. Our concentration right now is on getting results, the controversy on game venue doesn't bother us at all," he disclosed.

Manara said his team can play anywhere if directed by Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) fixture and the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB). It doesn't bother us whether we play at the National Stadium, Uhuru or Chamazi Complex, so long the rules of the game are observed.

"Simba is a big club and is at home anywhere, whether be in Mwanza, Mbeya or Dodoma, we are sure to get support from our fans who accompany the team wherever they go," he bragged.

However, Manara said they respect their opponents Azam as among the good teams in the league, the situation that anticipates a tough, but thrilling game which he said will help drill his players for the Dar es Salaam derby against their archrivals Young Africans on October 1st .

Simba squad, according to Manara, is injury free; expect defender Ahmed Juma who is recovering. On the other side of the camp, Azam FC under their Spanish coach continued to drill intensively at their Chamazi Complex seeking to win the crucial tie.

The team's hitman and skipper, John Bocco said players were in high morale ready for the clash and optimistic to emerge victors against their opponents. But, he admits the game is going to be tough on both sides.

Bocco has been a bitter thorn to the country's soccer giants Simba and Yanga, he has always scored whenever his team plays against either side. The football fans attention this weekend will also turn to Shinyanga where defending champions, Young Africans will be facing hosts Mwadui at Mwadui Complex.

The match has also been in the talks of many due to the fact that Mwadui FC under Jamhuri Kihwelo has been a hard nut to crack.

The situation is further verified with words from Mwadui tactician, Kihwelo who was quoted as swearing to beat his opponents who are already in Shinyanga ahead of tomorrow game.

Southampton's Charlie Austin makes quick work of Sparta Prague

Southampton’s stuttering start to the season is no more. After a less than convincing opening to life at St Mary’s, Claude Puel has earned his first win and it was all thanks to Charlie Austin, who up until now had not been especially favoured by his new manager.

Indeed the striker has not found life on the south coast particularly easy since moving in January but his two goals in the opening 27 minutes – his first since scoring on debut against Manchester United nine months ago – ensured a straightforward night against a limited Sparta Prague, with Jay Rodriguez adding a late third.

At the end the only disappointment was that he could not use the remaining hour plus change to complete his hat-trick, but it is safe to say he will be given plenty of more opportunities following such an accomplished outing.

Puel had spoken beforehand of the need to rotate his starting line-up for each game to ensure his players are fresh for every competition, yet he was adamant they are treating this particular tournament with utmost seriousness. Southampton had worked so hard to reach this stage and there was no way they would treat a first appearance in a European group stage lightly.

That commitment could easily have been questioned after making seven changes from the side that started at Arsenal last weekend, but, really, it was plain sailing from the outset.

In comparison Sparta made three changes from their most recent fixture, a 2-2 draw with Mlada Boleslav. Although by some distance the most recognisable name in the squad, Tomas Rosicky was not even on the bench five days after making his second debut for his hometown club, and it was evident from the outset that the visitors sought to frustrate by deploying three centre-halves.

That approach did not last long as Costa’s handball from Austin’s cross provided the striker with a chance to ease any early nerves. There was some delay before the penalty was awarded, with the referee, Manuel Gräfe, initially waving for play to continue. One of his assistants brought the matter to the German’s attention, though, and he eventually pointed to the spot. Costa had certainly struck the ball with his left arm when sliding in to block but had precious little time to react and there was definitely no intention. Considering the debatable nature of the late penalty conceded to Arsenal, it was a welcome change of fortune for Southampton.

Austin needed to do some work to convince Dusan Tadic he was to take the kick, though, and Virgil van Dijk, the stand-in captain, was required to push the irritated Serb away. It was soon forgotten about and Tadic made sure to congratulate his team-mate after a low powerful drive past Tomas Koubek.

Van Dijk headed a James Ward-Prowse corner over in the 10th minute as Southampton sought a second but Sparta soon emerged from their shell and began to counter with menace. The wing-backs, Vyacheslav Karavaev and Josef Sural, posed the greatest threat and there was plenty of pretty passing without much penetration.

If Southampton faced criticism for the absence of a finishing touch in recent games, they certainly seemed to have learned their lesson. Austin made it 2-0 in the 27th minute with a strong header following a delightful cross from Cuco Martina, who lofted the ball perfectly with the outside of his right foot. Thirty seconds earlier Austin had also found the net with a diving header but he was marginally offside.

Sparta introduced the veteran striker David Lafata at the break in search of a route back into the game but Southampton continued to look the more likely team. Tadic was denied by a solid Koubek save after a neat exchange on the right with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the 52nd minute and the best the visitors could muster by the hour mark was a measly corner.

Fraser Forster was finally called into meaningful action in the 67th minute when getting a strong hand behind a fiery mid-range effort from Lafata. Rodriguez added the third in injury time, guiding home Long’s low cross from eight yards.

Southampton v Sparta Prague: Europa League – as it happened
9/15/2016 9:58:29 PM

A look at the lineup shows that neither side is at full-strength. Let’s hope the players who’ve been selected do more than go through the motions. Sparta’s selection suggests they’re going to adopt an uncharacteristically defensive stance, so it’ll be up to Saints to summon enough creativity to foil the visitors’ spoilsport plan.

Preamble:

Hello and welcome to the start of Southampton’s second appearance in the group stages of a European tournament. The big question is can Claude Puel’s team emulate Lawrie McMenemy’s 1974 Texaco Cup heroes, who bravely fell at the last hurdle to Newcastle United (the same club, as it happened, who had ended their very first European expedition in 1970). Despite the 1974 feat – which, lest we forget, included a semi-final triumph over Oldham Athletic - it’s fair to say that Southampton’s European pedigree is less than rich and they could do with embellishing it this season, especially after last year’s ignominious failure against Midtjylland. Being in a group with Sparta Prague, Internazionale and Hapoel Beer’sheva gives them a chance to add a bit of lustre to their international record.

Today’s game is also an opportunity for Southampton to get their first victory under Puel, who has not exactly wowed folks on the south coast so far and has been sabotaged by some bad luck (such as the injury to Sofiane Boufal and that absurd penalty decision at the Emirates last weekend). No need for alarm just yet, but Southampton fans would certainly welcome more evidence that the new manager has a plan that will fly. He’ll need to realise that Nathan Redmond-as-striker wheeze just isn’t going to cut it, for instance. He’s deviated from it for this match, at least, as he’s made seven personnel changes to deploy a slightly novel lineup, with Van Dijk the only first-choice defender to start. Austin and Long are together up front in it would be encouraging if they clicked.

Sparta are unlikely to make it easy for the hosts. The Czechs did well in this tournament last season, emerging from their group unbeaten before ousting Bayer Leverkusen and Lazio and eventually losing to Villarreal in the quarter-finals. They were hoping to not to be in the tournament again this season but had to make do with it after losing to Steaua Bucharest in the qualifying round for the Champions League. They are paupers compared to the Premier League club but have some players who could enable them to upset the established order, notably the attacking midfielder. All in all, then, this could be an enjoyable contest. To get you in the mood, here’s some footage of when Southampton hosted Sporting Lisbon back in 1981. Don’t be too concerned about your team’s defending, Saints’ fans, just look at those kits: smooth.

Europa League roundup: 10-man Dundalk snatch late draw at Alkmaar

Dundalk salvaged their night with a last-gasp headed equaliser against their stellar Dutch opponents AZ Alkmaar on their Europa League debut.

Struggling with their captain, Stephen O’Donnell, sent off and trailing by a goal, the semi-professional Irishmen rallied in the dying minutes with Ciaran Kilduff’s strike which left it 1-1 at the final whistle and set Irish tricolours waving in the Netherlands.

AZ had taken the lead when Stijn Wuytens headed home from a long ball during the second half of the Group D clash and the signs looked ominous when O’Donnell was dismissed.

But from early in the match Dundalk had matched the Dutch top-four club for speed and creativity with a skilful performance from the marauding midfielder Daryl Horgan and with 10 men they defended valiantly as Andy Boyle cleared off the line.

A pinpoint cross from the left was then headed home by Kilduff, delighting the travelling support and earning the visitors a valuable point.

Elsewhere, Sassuolo marked their debut in the Europa League with a 3-0 win over seasoned campaigners Athletic Bilbao. The Serie A side left all their scoring until the final half-hour but the romped to victory with goals from Pol Lirola, Gregoire Defrel and Matteo Politano.

José Mourinho says Manchester United deserved more after Feyenoord defeat
9/15/2016 8:49:30 PM

José Mourinho reacts during Feyenoord’s 1-0 win at Manchester United. He was naturally unhappy at the offside in the buildup to the winner. Photograph: McManus/BPI/Rex/Shutterstock

José Mourinho bemoaned an offside goal after Manchester United’s Europa League campaign got off to a losing start at Feyenoord. Tonny Vilhena powered home the winner after 79 minutes, but Nicolai Jorgensen was marginally offside as he broke down the wing before crossing to set up the only goal of the game.

United were lacklustre going forward but Mourinho insisted his side did not deserve to lose. “Of course I am unhappy, especially because the way the game was going in the moment we don’t deserve to lose,” he said on BT Sport 3. “In the second half we were always in control, we were trying to win the game and they were trying not to lose the game.

“In that moment we were pushing and they capitalised because it is exactly at that moment where we lose the game. We were double unlucky because it’s a clear offside.”

Mourinho made eight changes from the side that lost the Manchester derby on Saturday, but the Portuguese did not want to discuss individual performances or comment on whether those players given their chance had passed it up in the defeat. “I don’t want to go in that direction, I don’t want to personalise it,” he said. “Some of the players were playing their first minutes of the season, there have not been many minutes for them, but obviously some played better than others. I cannot judge them only on one game.”

However, Mourinho said he would revert to a “normal team” for Sunday’s trip to Watford, with players such as Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw set to return.

iPhone 7 vs 6S: which phone is best?
9/15/2016 4:38:00 PM

Right now, we seem to be in a period of smartphone stasis. Everyone’s excited for this year’s new model but if truth be told, changes across the board are fairly minor. They’re iterative, evolutionary. You could say the same about the iPhone 7, which can be seen as just another iPhone 6 model with a few upgrades here and there. But as you’ll see, those small changes add up to something more significant. Here we’re comparing the iPhone 7 with the iPhone 6S to help you decide whether or not to upgrade. See also: 20 best phones

Note: This comparison is based on our review of the iPhone 6S, and our early impressions of the iPhone 7 which we have not yet benchmarked for performance, battery life, screen quality and so on. We will update this review once that testing has been completed.

iPhone 7 vs 6S: Design

The iPhone 7 has the same dimensions and – as near as makes no difference – weight. Apple has managed to remove the antenna lines for a cleaner look (they’re now just around the very top and bottom edges) and there’s two new colours to choose between: Jet Black and Black. These replace Space Grey, which is no longer available.

Jet Black is the ‘signature’ finish for the iPhone 7 and is a very highly polished aluminium case (shown on the iPhone 7 in the image below). It’s only available with 128GB or 256GB of storage, which also lets other people know you’ve got a very expensive phone. It’s a finish you’ll have to work hard to protect, though, as it’s susceptible to what Apple is calling micro-abrasions.

iPhone 7 vs 6S (Jet Black vs Black)

iPhone 7 vs 6S (Jet Black vs Black)

In the fine-print at the bottom of the iPhone’s shop listing on Apple’s website, you’ll find this, “The high-gloss finish of the jet black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision nine-step anodisation and polishing process. Its surface is equally as hard as other anodized Apple products; however, its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone.”

The other option is to go for the matt black version, which also comes in 32GB – the new base storage option.

You might also be interested in our comparison: iPhone 7 vs 7 Plus

In other respects, the iPhone 7’s design is identical to the 6S, and we suspect many an iPhone 6 or 6S case will fit the iPhone 7.

Of course, one major change is the removal of the headphone jack, but you get a convertor cable in the box to attach your normal headphones to the Lightning port. This does mean you can’t charge the battery and listen to music without buying another adaptor, but the iPhone 7 does have stereo speakers (instead of mono on the iPhone 6S).

It does this by using the earpiece (the speaker you usually use for phone calls) as the second loudspeaker, and the overall volume is claimed to be twice as loud as the iPhone 6S.

iPhone 7 vs 6S: Price

Whether due to the change in exchange rate or something else (such as increased storage), Apple has put up the price of the iPhone 7 in the UK compared to the 6S when it launched in 2015.

You'll pay £599 for the 32GB model, £699 for 128GB and £799 for 256GB. That's thje price from Apple - you might save a little or get a longer warranty if you buy from other retailers such as John Lewis.

iPhone 7 vs 6S (Jet Black vs Black)

iPhone 7 vs 6S (Jet Black vs Black)

The iPhone 6S cost £539 for 16GB, £619 for 64GB and £699 for 128GB. They have now changed to £499 for a 32GB model and £599 for 128GB. So for £599 you can have either a 32GB iPhone 7 or a 128GB iPhone 6S.

iPhone 7 vs 6S: Home button

It sounds rather insignificant, but the home button in the new iPhone is not a physical pushbutton. It’s now like a Force Touch trackpad: you press it and get feedback from the updated Taptic engine, which is essentially haptic feedback. It’s designed to be more durable than the old-style home button, and you can customise the level of feedback you get from it.

iPhone 7 vs 6S

iPhone 7 vs 6S

iPhone 7 vs 6S: Cameras

Although it might seem like the same 12Mp camera as the iPhone 6S, the iPhone 7 has an improved camera with an f/1.8 lens and optical stabilisation. Those are two important updates which should lead to sharper images and fewer blurry ones. We’ve yet to properly evaluate the camera, but we’ll update this article when we do. Note that the LED flash now comprises four LEDs, versus two in the 6S, and that the camera bump no longer has the chamfered silver ring around it:

iPhone 7 vs 6S

iPhone 7 vs 6S

The iPhone 6S still has a great camera, but it’s not as capable in low light where it lacks that optical stabilisation and has a slower f/2.2 aperture:

iPhone 7 vs 6S

iPhone 7 vs 6S

On the front, the iPhone 7 has a 7- rather than 5Mp camera, and the same f/2.2 aperture as the iPhone 6S. Again, we'll have to wait until we can put the new phone through its paces properly to see how much of an improvement selfies are over the 6S's.

iPhone 7 vs 6S: Waterproof

One of the biggest upgrades is of course the waterproofing. The iPhone 7 is water-resistant to 1m for up to 30 minutes. This isn’t simply to guard against accidental drops in the bath, toilet or your pint of craft ale: it also opens up much more creativity when it comes to underwater photography and video.

Obviously you can’t take it scuba diving, but for fun shots of your kids swimming, it’s another trick to add to the iPhone’s list. Don’t try the same thing with an iPhone 6S!

iPhone 7 vs 6S: Performance and display

Processor

The iPhone 6S is no slowcoach, but the iPhone 7 still beats it thanks to the A10 Fusion chip. This is Apple’s first quad-core processor, with the A9 in the iPhone 6 being a 64-bit dual-core part.

Like most flagship Android phones’ processors, the A10 has two powerful cores which handle games and other demanding apps. The other two are lower performance and have much lower power consumption, and are used for all the other stuff, such as when you’re reading emails. A new controller decides when the high-power cores are needed and switches them off when they’re not to save battery.

We’ve not yet been able to run any benchmarks on the iPhone 7, but results from popular benchmarks have appeared online and seem to indicate that the new chip really is about 40 percent quicker than the iPhone 6’s A9.

Battery life

More power tends to mean less battery life, but Apple says you’ll get around two hours’ extra use from an iPhone 7 when doing the same things as on an iPhone 6S.

There’s still no wireless charging in the iPhone 7, and no ‘fast charging’ (or at least no fancy marketing name for it.

Display

Resolution and the underlying technology remain the same as for the iPhone 6S, but the iPhone 7’s screen is 25 percent brighter. It also has a wider colour gamut, which means that colours should be more faithfully reproduced. Plus, the phone has end-to-end colour management which means that the camera sensor is calibrated to the screen and so the colours it captures are what (in theory) is displayed when you view the photo or video on screen.

Apple calls this Wide Colour, and it’s the same as the DCI-P3 standard. This isn’t HDR, though. In fact, the iPhone 7’s contrast ratio remains the same as the iPhone 6S’.

Clearly, the iPhone 7 is better than the iPhone 6S. It’s water-resistant, has better performance, a better screen and a slightly better camera. The battery should last longer, too, but other updates such as the new colours and finishes are more of a personal preference.  Some won’t like the absence of the headphone jack, nor the higher prices. If you already have an iPhone 6S, it’s probably worth holding out for a year and seeing if the iPhone 8 brings significant improvements or any radical changes. But if you’re choosing between buying an iPhone 6S or an iPhone 7 right now, it’s trickier. You’ll save £100 by opting for the older phone – the entry model now comes with the same 32GB of storage – and still get a headphone jack. Go for the new phone if you need the waterproofing, and don't forget that it's more future-proof too: it will get at least one extra version of iOS than the 6S will.

The Ultimate Easy Tips of Drinking More Water

Why and How to Drink More Water Effortlessly.

This post originally appeared on DailyFoodFacts

Drink More Water for Better Health

How much water did you drink today? Probably not enough.

It’s 1 pm and I already drank 2 liters (67 oz) of water and will reach my goal and the official recommendation of 3.7 liters (125 oz) for men who exercise with little trouble.

Water is almost as essential as air. You won’t die within minutes but within a couple of days. It is said that a person can live without water for around 3 days but without food several months.

Maybe it is that way because every human being is mainly made out of water. Adults consist of 65% of bodily fluids and almost every process in your cell requires water to function properly. Your brain consists of almost 80% water.

It’s also worth mentioning that around 20% of your water intake comes from food and this number is higher if you eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. Keep that in mind as we’ll come back to that later.

Here’s what you can expect in this post.

  1. Official Recommendations.
  2. Personal Adjustments.
  3. Signs you are not drinking enough.
  4. What your body needs water for.
  5. Water & weight, one of the best motivators?
  6. What you can expect when you start drinking more water.
  7. Your personal water intake formula.
  8. The one thing that will increase your water intake unconsciously & is almost backed by science.
  9. Other tips for increasing your water intake.
  10. Interesting tools for your water intake.

Let’s get started.

Official Recommendations

Since “how much water should I drink a day” is one of the 10 most popular questions asked on the internet, people don’t seem to know how much water they should drink.

While there are many official recommendations, they are also quite ambiguous. One of the most popular recommendation is the 8×8 method which says to drink eight 8 oz glasses of water, which adds up to around 1.9 liters (64 oz). Unfortunately, nobody really knows where this came from, but everybody repeats it.

Maybe this came into existence because it was so easy to remember.

The Institute of Medicine recommends that women drink around 2.2 – 2.7 liters (75-91 oz) and men around 3.2 – 3.7 liters (108 – 125 oz). What you need to remember is that these guidelines are for the total fluid intake and thus include the fluids from food, which as stated before is around 20%.

Personal Adjustments

When it comes to official recommendations there is a problem with all of these: they are general and not based on your subjective need for water, which can vary quite a lot as you’ll learn when you read on.

Your water need depends not only your weight but also on the climate you live in, your daily activity, as well as the food you eat. You need to make personal adjustments. Here are some of the most common influences:

  • Climate
    • Living in a hotter climate will make you sweat more, which requires you to drink more water. In the winter, a heated indoor environment can also cause your skin to dry out. To prevent this you should either keep the humidity in a good range (40-60%) or you should drink more water. Living at higher altitudes can cause rapid breathing and higher urination, both of which result in more fluid loss.
  • Exercise
    • If you exercise until you sweat you need additional water to compensate for the fluid loss. Depending on the kind of exercise you engage in, regarding length, intensity and how much you personally sweat you need to drink more or less additional water. You’ll learn how much exactly below when calculating your personal water intake. If you are exercising for longer periods of time, for example by running a marathon you might use a drink that contains sodium, to make up for the loss due to sweating.
  • Illness
    • When you are sick, for example having a fever or diarrhea you need to drink water, maybe even supplemented with electrolytes, which are minerals in your blood, for example, potassium, calcium and sodium. You lose those electrolytes when sweating or through your stool. When having a bladder infection, you should also increase you water intake to make up for the lost fluids. With other health conditions, like heart failure or kidney or liver disease you actually need to limit your water intake, because your excretion of water doesn’t function properly.
  • Breastfeeding and pregnancy
    • When you’re pregnant or breastfeeding you need to increase you water intake to stay hydrated. If you’re not sure about that you should definitely talk to your doctor about that.

Signs that you are not drinking enough

You might ask yourself how you can know if you’re drinking enough water. There are several signs, but the most obvious sign is thirst.

Other signs include:

  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Dry skin and lips
  • Headaches
  • Constipation
  • Mood swings
  • Joint pains

The list goes on, but also besides thirst, those signs are quite intangible and can be caused by several other causes. One of the best and reliable sign is checking your pee. It’s the most subjective and personal feedback you’ll have.

When you’re not drinking enough water your urine will have a dark, concentrated yellow color. Ideally, your pee should have a light yellow color, somewhat like pale straw. There’s a great infographic about the different colours of your pee. You can find it here.

Checking the color of your pee should show you where you are at the moment and what you need to do. Drink more water when you have dark coloured by or drink less water when your pee is colourless.

What your body needs water for.

In order to drink more water, or more specifically, develop a habit of drinking more water you need to know why you should do it. If the section of above with all the negative consequences of not drinking enough water was enough to convince you, you can skip this section. If not, read on.

As mentioned in the beginning your body needs water for almost all processes, but here are a few more specific ones:

  • Digestion
    • Your body needs water to digest your food and dissolve the nutrients in it. Water is also used to absorb the water soluble vitamins which include all B-Vitamins and Vitamin C.
  • Get rid of waste products.
    • There are waste products that accumulate in your body every day. In order to get rid of them, your body needs water, to simply flush them out.
  • Biochemical reactions
    • During your day, there are a ton of biochemical actions taking place in your body. From digesting food to producing energy or tissues and your body needs water for all of these processes.
  • Temperature regulation
    • Why do you think you sweat? It’s your body trying to cool you down. If there is too little water this process won’t work and your body will overheat and this could result in having a heatstroke. Additionally, because there is more blood flowing to your skin it can put a strain on your heart.
  • Lubrication
    • Whether it’s for your joints or other moving parts, without water things won’t go as smoothly.

Water & weight loss, one of the best motivators?

What appears to be a major question that many people have been if drinking more water will help you lose weight.

Two things.

First of all, water is not some magic drink that will help you drop the weight you’ve been wanting to drop since college. And by the way: there is no such drink so don’t fall into the trap of clever marketers.

The second, more exciting thing is: yes, water can actually help you in your weight loss journey. As I mentioned above, water won’t haven a direct effect, but there are several indirect effects.

Water will make you feel full.
A study at the University of Birmingham compared the weight loss of people who drank 0,5 liters of water half an hour before every meal and people who only imagined feeling full. After 12 weeks the water group lost an additional 2.87 pounds (1,3 KG) just by drinking water. Other studies got similar results.

A possible explanation for this is that water makes you feel fuller and, as a result, you decrease your food intake. The same effect is true if you compare eating vegetables with a vegetable soup. The soup has more volume and as a result, you’ll feel less hungry afterwards.

Sometimes your thirsty, not hungry.
With food being everywhere around us, it’s easy to feel hungry all the time. Unfortunately, many of us misinterpret the signs our body gives us and confuse being hungry with being thirsty.

If you feel hungry you should, and this goes hand in hand with the first point, drink something before eating anything. Give your body time to recognise the fluid intake and see how you feel after 15 to 20 minutes. If you still feel hungry it’s time to eat something.

Drinking water can increase the calories you burn.
Although this sounds like a direct effect, it is not. When drinking water, it’s usually colder than your body temperature, so your body needs to spend energy to warm the water from room temperature 22°C (71°F) to 37°C (98°F).

This effect of burning more calories started in most studies around 10 minutes after drinking water and lasted up to 60 minutes, increasing the energy expenditure by around 25%. To take advantage of this effect you need to drink at least 500ml (17 oz) of water, because the increased energy expenditure didn’t occur when drinking less.

Drinking water can reduce the consumption of other beverages.
Water is calorie free and if you replace other beverages, like soda or juices with water you’ll naturally take in fewer calories. This holds only true if you drink water instead of them, not in addition to.

According to observational studies drinking mostly water can decrease your calorie intake by up to 200 calories per day.

What you can expect when you start drinking more water.

You now already know a lot about what, but maybe you’re still not 100% convinced. I get it. Since water is natural, 100% calorie free & costs almost nothing and not expensive and produced by a major corporation, it is natural to have doubts.

Water can have many positive effects on your health and your general well-being. First of all, as already mentioned it is necessary for the majority of process in your body, so by drinking enough water you can expect to simply feel better. Maybe your joint pains will reduce or your eyes won’t be so dry anymore.

Additionally, if you want to lose weight or prevent weight gain, water might help you with that as mentioned above. I’m sure you don’t care about the exact reason why this happens, it’s just important that it happens.

You will not only feel better, but you will also look better. There are several self-experiments online where people started to drink more water and took a photograph at the beginning and at the end. Their skin looked better, they had fewer wrinkles and a natural glow.

There might be other reasons for these improvements, but let’s assume those experiments are valid.

You are also more likely to feel more energetic and less tired if you drink water during the day. This will benefit your exercise routine as well because properly hydrated muscles work better than dehydrated ones.

Your bowel function may improve so don’t be surprised if your trips to the bathroom go more smoothly. It’s not only that drinking enough water helps the kidneys to get rid of toxins, but it also prevents the colon from extracting water from the stool to ensure hydration.

Your personal water intake formula

Water is essential and you should really make sure to drink enough, I hope you’re convinced by now! Are you? Great!

So let’s get to the important stuff and figure out how much you should drink during the day and how you can do that.

As mentioned in the beginning, the Institute of Medicine recommended that women drink 2.2 – 2.7 liters (75-91 oz) and men around 3.2 – 3.7 liters (108 – 125 oz). I’ll explain the variation of these numbers in a second, but to be on the safe site, let’s the upper limit to begin with.

Women: 2.7 liters (85 oz)

Men: 3.7 liters (125 oz)

Now, let’s get your daily activities into the formula as well.

Foods you eat:

The solid foods you eat account for around 20% of your daily water intake, but again, it depends on the foods you eat. If you’re consuming a lot of fruits and vegetables you can easily get more than 20% of your water intake through food. If on the other hand you’re consuming a lot of processed (& “dry) foods, you are likely getting less than 20% of water.

Subtracting the 20% of your water intake from food we’ll end up with the following amounts of water you should actually drink.

Women: ~2.2 liters (74 oz).

Men: ~3.0 liters (101 oz).

Remember this applies only if you eat enough “water-rich” foods: such as cucumber, lettuce, tomatoes, watermelon, broccoli, carrots and various other fruits and vegetables.

Now that we took care of the food intake, let’s take a closer look at your personal water intake formula. Here are a few common influences that you should take into account.

Exercise: +0.5 liters (17 oz).

Depending on the amount you sweat and the intensity of the exercise this amount can vary, but you should be on the safe side with this. If you’re running a marathon or a triathlon this won’t apply.

Sickness: + 0.5 – 1 liters (17 to 34 oz)

Depending on your sickness you need to adjust this. In cases where you lose a lot of fluid, i.e. diarrhoea, you should drastically increase your fluid intake and maybe supplement with electrolytes. In prolonged cases, you should definitely contact your doctor.

Pregnancy: + 1 liters (34 oz)

This is just a rough recommendation. In order to be safe, you should contact your doctor.

Cold & dry climate: ~+0,5 liters (17 oz)

Living in a (very) cold & dry environment could mess with your sense of thirst. Every time you breathe, your body is forced to heat and humidify the air you breathe in. This causes a significant fluid loss over the course of the day. You’ll especially experience this when you sleep in a dry climate. If in the morning your nose, mouth & throat are likely to feel very dry, you’ll need to drink more water and probably increase the humidity of the room.

Additionally, this will also make you more susceptible to diseases, because your mucous membranes need to be humid to fight off bacteria and viruses.

There might be other personal influences and if I missed a critical one, please send me a message or leave a comment (LINK) and I will add it to the list. What this should do is give you a rough estimate on how much water you should drink during your usual day. I don’t know how much exercise you do or if you live in a dry environment, so the best person to determine your water intake is you.

The one thing that will increase your water intake unconsciously & is almost backed by science.

All the knowledge you now have about water will be useless if you don’t apply it and actually drink more water. That’s what this and the next section is for. I want to give you recommendations on how you can increase your daily water intake, so you’ll get the benefits of it.

I must say that this is water worked for me, but don’t take my word for it and please try it for yourself. Let me know about your experiences!

The best thing I found to increase the daily water intake is: get a bigger glass.

Yes. It’s really that simple. Let me ask you a question and then show you a related example and explain why this will probably work.

What do you think when drinking water? “I’ll drink 0.5 liters (17 oz) of water” or “I’ll drink a glass of water”? Probably the latter. Continuing.

You’ve probably heard of the “Smaller Plate Study”. In case you haven’t here it is in two sentences:

In 2003, Dr Brain Ransack & Dr Koert van Ittersum examined the effect of using 10-inch plates instead of 12-inch plates on the amount of food participants eat, without affecting their satisfaction or perceived fullness. The results were, that this unconscious change, lead to a 22% decrease in calorie being served (& consumed) because the smaller plates make a normal portion seem bigger.

Since then reducing the size of your plate has been common advice to everybody who wants to eat less food. Let’s just turn this around.

By increasing the size of your glass, you probably unconsciously increase your water intake. I haven’t found a study on this, but for me it perfectly makes sense. Just as the smaller plates make a normal serving seem bigger, a bigger glass makes a normal serving of water seem smaller.

Makes sense, right?

Here’s what I did. I got a 0.5 liter  (17 oz) glass and got rid of my 0.3 liters (10 oz) glasses. This way, whenever I’m drinking “a glass of water”, I’m almost consuming twice the amount of water I originally did. This makes drinking water much less daunting because I actually only need to drink around 7 glasses of water, instead of 12.

Action: Get a bigger glass of water.

If you try this, please let me know if it works for you.

Other tips for increasing your water intake.

Besides using a bigger glass there are several other tips that might work for you. You probably heard most of them, in that case just use them as a reminder. I’m starting with my favourite.

Drinking a glass of water right after waking up.

When I wake up in the morning I’ll see a glass of water right in front of me and although I’ve been doing this for several months now, I still catch myself thinking: “I can’t drink right now”. This doesn’t happen every day, but once in awhile. I few minutes later I’ve already consumed almost 15% of my daily water need and the day hasn’t even started.

That’s a great feeling. You probably think about this the same way I did, in the way that you can’t drink this much water that early in the morning. Try it. You’ll get used to it after a week. Not only will you have a head start when it comes to drinking water, but at the same time, you’ll feel energetic afterwards, because you’re replacing all the fluids you lost during the night, since your exhaling water vapor.

Action: Before going to bed, place a full glass of water on your desk.

Place a full glass of water on your desk.

Right next to my laptop on my desk is this 0,5 liters (17 oz) glass of water. Every time I look at it I take a sip. It’s almost drinking unconsciously. Have you ever been to a party and there was a bowl of  pretzels on the table and you ate from it unconsciously? Well, that’s the same thing, but not junk snacks, but precious water.

Action: Place a full glass of water on your desk and drink from it continuously.

Upgrade your water.

I get it. Water gets boring, but it doesn’t have to be. Vary still and sparkling water or add lemon, cucumber or other fruits to your water. Experiment with it and try to find something that suits you. From time to time try to make your own lemonade or mix your water with fruit juices. Don’t do this all the time, but in case, you get bored with drinking water. Tea does count as well, especially if it doesn’t have any caffeine.

Action: Try different additions to your water.

Filter your water.

This is last on my list because I’m living in Germany and there you can drink the water straight from the tap. If you are living in a country where there’s chlorine added to the water, I would suggest you filter the water beforehand. Although it’s not proven yet, but chlorine is associated with an increased risk of cancer. Don’t take your chances and get a filter. Filtered water also tastes better so you’re likely to drink more. Being able to drink from the tap is also making things easier, which is important for building this habit.

Action: Filter your water.

Interesting tools for your water intake.

This is just an addition to this article because I stumbled upon some interesting gadgets during my research for this article.

A plain old pitcher.
In case, you’re having trouble with tracking your water intake you could get a pitcher and fill it up in the morning. It should be big enough to hold all the water you need for the day, so you don’t need to refill it. Every morning fill it up and use it to fill your glasses. This works only if you use one pitcher for one person.

Water Infuser
I don’t own one of these, but I think there are interesting especially if you want to infuse your water with fruits or vegetables. You can find several of those in amazon. If you have one let other people know what you think of them.

“Intelligent Bottle”
You can think of this as a Pitcher 2.0. It’s a water bottle that tracks your water intake on your phone. I don’t own any of these, but it’s an interesting concept as well.

Apps
There are several mobile apps you can use to track your water intake. For me, those do not work because I find it draining to add every glass of water to the app, but maybe they’ll work for you.

Remember, you don’t need any of these tools to increase your water intake and get the health benefits, they just might be helpful to some of you.

I hope you enjoyed this guide on water and I hope I could convince you to drink more water, as well as to give you helpful tips and tricks and how you can do that.

Remember: Change your environment to favour your healthy choices.
