On September 7, 1813, the U.S. federal government gets the nickname Uncle Sam. The name is linked to Samuel Wilson, a New York meat packer who supplies barrels of beef to the Army during the War of 1812. Soldiers begin referring to the barrels as "Uncle Sam's." Now Hassan Sheikh Mohamud wants more young Somalis from abroad — including the United States — to return home and help rebuild the country.
