Uganda: Ssentongo Opens KCCA Account, Shaban Stars

Kampala and Jinja — KCCA opened up a four- point lead at the top of the Azam Uganda Premier League following Saturday's impressive 3-1 away win at Bul.

New KCCA recruit Robert Ssentongo hit the ground running at Kakindu ground, netting a well taken brace. His two goals were assisted by left winger Brian Majwega and they all came in the first half of the tie played at a wet ground in Jinja.

Midfielder Muzamir Mutyaba scored the league champions' third goal that sealed off the contest whereas Milton Karisa pulled one back for Frank Anyau's side late in the game.

Express next

Ahead of the fierce cross city duel between KCCA and Express tomorrow at Lugogo, Ssentongo, a four-time UPL top scorer, spared a word for his team's next opponents.

"I came in late but I have to be the top scorer again this season. I want to announce my arrival proper with a goal against Express," vowed the former URA marksman.

Ssentongo's arrival signaled the demotion of hitherto KCCA protagonist Geoffrey Sserunkuuma to the bench and hastily giving Mike Mutebi's side a whole new attacking dimension.

"I had warned my players about the threat Ssentongo presents but they failed to tame him. The defence had no clue of stopping his rampaging runs," Anyau told Daily Monitor. Ssentongo is only a goal behind Onduparaka striker Muhammad Shaban, who scored his third goal in six games in a 2-1 home win over Police at the Betway Greenlight Stadium.

The Arua-based team exchanged places with URA, who are now eighth following a 1-1 draw with Proline at Lugogo.

Shafiq Kagimu netted his second goal in as many games to salvage a draw for Kefa Kisala's URA after Gift Ali had given Proline the lead with another sublime freeckick.
