WATCH: Somizi was once so broke he 'would have tapped a girl’

Speaking on 947 recently, Somizi revealed that he went through a difficult time between 2006 and 2009 - three years where he was really broke.

"It was the toughest (time)," he revealed, before explaining that it was down to him being "careless with money."

The Idols SA judge later joked that his struggles were so real, it would have even led him to sleeping with a woman in desperation.

"When you're broke anything goes. Me, during those three years, I would have tapped a girl," laughed Somizi.

Still, he's grateful that he wasn't hooked on "drugs or any other substances" at the time.

"When you’re broke and you take drugs, you become broker. You know, you become brokest," Somizi said.

Somizi says he is grateful for his broke struggles that helped him appreciate what he has today.

"I know for a fact now, for the past year, I am the biggest personality. I may not be the richest but I'm ranked there," Somizi added.
